Remember now...........the reason for shortening the gun season is so we can KILL MORE DEER! While we are at it we need to adjust polling times during elections. If we only allow the polls to be open from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm MORE FOLKS WOULD GET OUT AND VOTE! Depends if its a stronghold for Republicans or Democrats! ;D

My 2 cents: Lengthen the shotgun season - doe only after the first week, tehn extend to an even longer season. Followed up by an archery season that goes into late Jan. There are so many deer out and about, there still needs to be a reduction. There are farmers who get depredation permits that allow them to shoot deer after deer with any gun all summer long. Around my neck of the woods, Amish eat pretty much nothing but fresh deer- get their permits, and shoot a deer every few evenings. They also get other farmers' permits too. Let the hunter shoot the deer- our licenses pay for them.... Go to allowing more than one deer to muzzleloading only( I know extra doe tags can be taken), The more allowed for brings in more revenue instead of the state paying farmers for loss of crops and deer going atleast partially to waste.

hotshot, read dbd870's post: This thread is serious? then................let DNR manage the heard level - they have wildlife biologists who are supposed to study these things, this is their profession. I don't know about everyone else here but I have an electrical engineering degree, not one in biology or wildlife management or anything else like that, while I may be able to design the wiring system for you plant or the controls for you machine I have no training or experience to deal with herd levels or season length; the reality is we're just a bunch of hunters out in the fields, seeing our little corner (or 2) of the world. Let them do their job. You live in the county with the largest harvest numbers last year. What may be a good idea in your county, may be a disaster in another.

No, it is not too long. I think it should go through the end of January, as deer are a lot easier, in my experience, to pattern due to less pressure. I think last minute hunters are more likely to shoot does, too.

Open up on September 1 would be my preference. I can always take advantage of more hunting opportunities. Take notes from our buddies to the south.

Ok, I have read the posts from both sides. I usually don't hunt the first two weeks of bow. I may sit in the evenings once in a while. I just can't get into it until cooler weather arrives. If you stick one when its hot you gotta get that meat cooled down quick which is also a hassle with work schedules and storage issues. There is something on the late season side I have always wondered about......How would frigid temps affect my bow. I mean I have never shot in anything less than say 20 degrees. You would think that colder temps would change your point of impact and could damage your bow. I don't know about you guys but I get cold pretty quick. In late bow I would be so bundled up I don't know if I could draw back. I would look like a camo michellen man!!

Archery season is to short. It should go thru the month of January. Ohio does. About the time the deer are getting settled down from 32 days of gun hunting archery season is over.

When I started hunting Archery came in about the middle of Oct.. I tried to archery hunt after shotgun (at that time) but it was to dog gone cold, what with all of the clothes that I had to wear to stay half way warm I could not draw my 45 lb recurve. So no the Archery season is not to long, I do not see extending it to match another states either. The only change that I personally would make is to allow cross bows for all of it.
