I'm thinking about buying a safety vest, so I'm looking for some recommendations.
I'm interested in what you might think is the most comfortable and easiest to use.
Thanks, Robert

loggy bayous transformer is what i use. easy to put on and still comfortable. nice thing is is that it is not a vest so you can still get into your pockets

Thanks Buckeater,
That looks pretty good. Any idea of what they cost and where I might find one?
I should have added that I want it for bowhunting and want something quiet. Thanks

I have the hunter safety system pro series vest. Very light weight mesh. I think I paid $120.

Seems to me that Primo's has one on its web site dedicated to the bow hunter. I have a Hunters Safety system, both camo/blaze in one. I think it could use more pockets, otherwise it works well. For most of Archery I wear a Seat of the pants system.

I've got to cast a dissenting votes against the HSS vest. The one I had (an early model) was HEAVY and way too warm for early season bowhunting.
I sold it and bought the Seat of the Pants Fast Back harness.
That is all that I use.

Woody is right, the early HSS vests were very heavy but also "heavy duty". The newer ones (I have a tree stalker) are much lighter. The pro series one with the mesh is really light.
I met the inventer and owner of the HSS company at the ATA and he was a very very nice guy. He truly is proud of how many letters he has from hunters thanking him for saving his life during falls.
I will probably give him my business for years to come.

How are these when you are shooting a bow?
Do they get in the way at all?
Thanks Again!

Thanks they are around 60-70. the news ones even have a bino system on them. all the sporting good stores should have them (gander, bass pro, cabelas, ect.).

seat-of-the pants, works for me, never had a problem with shooting, mostly with a bow.

I have hunt with a seat of the pants for several years now upgraded to the SOP fastback a couple years back. I never had any problems with them, I have had a few people try to talk me into HSS stating that they are easier and faster to get on. SOP is easy enough to get on especially the fastback. Never get in a hurry when it comes to my safety, being in a hurry generally causes mistakes. I could see one of the buttons getting bumped accidentaly (at least that would be my luck) Once you put the straps together on the SOP they are not coming out without conscious effort.

My Wife bought me the reversible Hunter Safety System vest for Xmas a couple years ago. My Son uses the non-reversible HSS which was slightly cheaper. We like both and always wear 'em. Anything you wear is worth it. My nieghbor fell out of his tree stand 25 years ago and broke his back. He's recovered now, but it was a long road to hoe.

I picked up one the Gorilla deluxe vests this past season and was very pleased with it... easy to get into, and the buckle system is pretty idiot proof... comes with a set of straps for lineman and ladder-style stands... it was like $65 at Gander last year... www.gorillatreestands.com/safety_vest_harnesses_2.shtmlThe young man who did the youth hunting seminar at D&T Expo had a safety rope system put out I think by either HSS or Ameristep, rigged with a prussic knot and safety rings for like $29... probably cheaper than you could buy bulk rope and rings and rig yourself... Here's one by HSS for $39... www.cabelas.com/prod-1/0046839418023a.shtml

I purchased the Hunter Safety System Pro last year. I bought the "mesh" version. I've not been real happy with it. It's sort of heavy, which I can live with, but it is a NOISY son of a gun. I bought it via mail order. Had I looked it over in person, I likely would have bought the "non-mesh" version. The mesh is two layers with the tree strap sewn to only one layer and makes noise when the two mesh halves rub together. The buckles also rattle after they are latched.
