I like to jog in a cemetery close to my house; typically before daylight. It's not unusual to see foxes, but this morning I saw 2 coyotes.
I don't mind seeing them, but one of them didn't seem overly concerned with my presence. It ran about 30 yards up a small hill, sat down and watched me.
Not knowing much about these critters, I am wondering if they are aggressive toward humans?
I think I'll be packing heat in the future, just in case!

Usually they go the other way.....fast. If its legal to shoot, I would take them out. All the rest of the wildlife including those foxes will be silently thanking you!

A pair of yotes recently killed a Canadian woman while she was jogging, I'd pack a handgun at least just in case.

I know a guy that had a coyote run behind him while he was jogging. The coyote finally bit him on the leg. He had to undergoe all the rabie shots in the stomach!

This episode definitely got my attention. I'll have my S&W snubbie with me on future runs.
This was in Memorial Park Cemetery, on the east side of Indy, so hunting them would be illegal, but I'll certainly shoot one in self defense.
I'd rather the critter get the shot than me!!

If you have a CC and some snake shells you should be ok.
I read in one of the outdoor mags that yotes are increasingly becoming conditioned to humans. In Los Angeles they roam neighborhoods at will and don't run from people unless challenged with some form of threat display, and even then they don't run too quickly. Around here it's not the least bit ususual to hear a pack howling at night, I'd hate to have a pack, or even a pair on my heels without a gun.

I had a pack of coyotes try to take a deer carcass from me a couple years ago...shot a doe right at dark, when I came back in the dark, four coyotes were around her and didnt wanna give her up...it was actually pretty scary...but my cousin and I both shot one and the other two ran off real quick

I don't think you are in danger, but maybe you ought to take a pettet pistol and zap the stupid thing to reinforce the idea that humans are dangerous. I don't like potentially dangerous beasts that get comfy with our presence.

I have heard on several Talk Shows that certain wildife species are becomming more & more bold & there have been many unreported attacks on Humans. Mountain Lions, Bears, and other predators are usually the ones responsible, but Deer have also been attacking people as well.

I'd be more worried about dogs attacking you. No need to for a gun, carry pepperspray. works great when bicycling too

I appreciate all of the responses, but there doesn't seem to be a real consensus of opinion about the danger posed by coyotes.
I'll likely be carrying a small .38 spcl. in the future, perhaps with a mix of shot shells and wad cutters.
As to the effectiveness of pepper spray, it gets varying results. A few years back I had a neighbor who owned a Great Dane that reached over the fence and bit me. I doused it full in the face with pepper spray and it simply licked at it with no apparent ill effect. I've heard mail carriers make similar observations.

Hit them in the eyes with wasp spray. I keep a can in the semi and it will keep unwanted people off your runnin boards and legal in all 50 states.

I found a fawn bleat call that I think will imitate a rabbit in distress fairly well. I think that I'll go out in the backyard, which borders the cemetery, and try to call those 'yotes within viewing distance.
Can't shoot them here in town (unless in self defense), but I can perhaps develop some calling skills.
Standing at the edge of a graveyard in the dark making squealing noises will also serve to confirm some of the wife's suspicions! Probably give the neighbors cause for concern also!
Although, sometimes it doesn't hurt to have them think that you're halfway crazy!

You don't have to try to imitate a rabbit with your fawn bleat, trust me, the sound of a fawn in distress will suit them yotes just fine!

I have always thought of coyotes as cowardly when it comes to humans. It has never crossed my mind to worry about them, usually more worried about getting inbetween a buck and doe in the dark. Maybe those yotes are so used to seeing humans that they have lost some fear. Around here as soon as they spot you they haul butt, but that's the affect a .223 has I guess.
