Have permission to rabbit hunt a 50 acre woods that the man is thinking of leasing for deer this coming year. With the snow on it is incredible the amount of things you can learn about a woods. Found two major bedding areas. One had 11 beds with another having 8. The one with more beds is a thicket on top of a ridge that looks like cattle have run that trail. As I got to the top of the ridge where the thicket starts I was shocked to count about 20 rubs in a 15 yard cirlce. Saw two gigantic single beds which had to be big bodied bucks. The incredible thing was one of the beds was in a treetop blow down that I climbed on to jump rabbits. I dont even know how the hell the big boy got in there. I am thinking of going out in a couple of weeks to look for antlers. Should I check the bedding areas or stay on the used trails?

I was going to ask the same thing. I went out today and looked for sheds in both beds and trails but haven't found any yet. Good Luck to ya.

When there is snow on the ground is an great time to really see how deer travel. I usually don't look for sheds till around the first fo March. Anytime you get to be out in the woods is great.....

BEST WAY TO SCOUT IS SMALL GAME HUNTING. THAT WAY I WILL SNEAK AROUND MORE AND WALK SLOWLY RATHER THAN JUST WALKING.
