spent some time in a bow stand last weekend. For those that didnt venture out...it was colder than cold! I honstly think Friday afternoon I was colder than Ive ever been in a tree stand. Only saw 2 deer also.
Saturday afternoon I decided to hunt a 12' ladder stand in a little woods I rarely hunt. The deer had been moving thru it to go to a picked corn field. My buddy hunted across the property from it Friday evening and saw several deer go thru at 4:45.
The bad thing about this stand as a bow stand is its so low and the South side goes up a hill so you are very low to the ground. So it would be tough to pull off a late season bow kill with the deer so jumpy.
I just happened to look South and running across the field right to me were several deer. I got the bow off its hook and attached my release as soon as I saw them. They came right into the woods in front of me and stopped at 8 yards. Being on the uphill side of me this put me at 6' or 8' off the ground! The lead doe looked tasty so I put the Muzzy thru her. She ran back the way they had came and took most of the deer back with her.
I watched her go and thought she fell right inside the other woods they came from but couldnt tell for sure. I then noticed 3 deer were still in the woods with me. I grabbed another arrow thinking I could pull off a twofer but before any of them offered a shot they got nervous and left the way they had came in. It was 4:50.
It was a good way to end the season.
