Just walked outside on my front porch and heard a deer heading my way in the neighbors yard. The big bodied deer came through the pine trees about 30yds from me and walked slowly acrossed my yard. I came back inside and waited a couple minutes for it to get in the woods so i could walk to my truck without spooking it. When I finally got the spotlight out I was suprised to see a nice 130+ 10pt standing on the edge of my yard. He never cared i was there and walked up in the woods and started harrassing a couple does that wanted nothing to do with him. Just what I needed to make the long wait til Oct 1st that much harder. Hopefully I'll have his sheds in my hands this spring.

I swear the DNR mails them all calendars so they know when seasons are! ;d If that deer would have walked thru a less law abiding person such as your self, I bet that would be a dead deer. It would be easy to say that you shot on the last evening. Makes me wonder how many die that way?

It gets light a lot later in the day; DLST not withstanding. It gets dark a lot earlier than it did in Oct. Even in Nov makes it a lot easier for deer to go nocturnal. Or is it just because of the way the sun rises and sets? Personally I think that older wiser deer move later and stop earlier. Especially after the antlers harden and loose their velvet. It tells them that the time for preditors is coming.
