Wow, what a year. I saw lots of deer early, missed 2 bucks the week before gun season w/ a bow. I clean missed one & hit the other one but never recovered him - after spending 7 1/2 hours over 2 days trailing blood. My freezer was looking like it was going to be empty for the year, but all of that changed today. At 5:43 a mature doe had the misfortune of finding herself at the end of a 100 grain shockwave..... My freezer won't be empty after all. Here's where my question comes in. The processor I use was already closed. I hung the doe in a friend of mine's poll barn, but she's going to freeze solid. Will this hurt the meat? I had a friend tell me not to worry about it & that I should get the deer checked in tomorrow & then just let her hang all week. Will that hurt the meat - being frozen that long before being processed. I've never been in this situation before. Thanks for the help...

Should be just fine. I shot one last weekend of muzzy and my processor was closed as well. No where to hang it so i had to leave it in my truck. It was very cold that night with some snow. I just took out to the processor the next morning as soon as he opened and let him do his work. I've had 3-4 meals on it and it's been awfully tasty. I did get sicker then a dog on new years eve though after eating snack sticks the night before, but im pretty sure that was just my turn for the stomach flu that the entire family had the week before, or at least i hope thats what it was

Did I miss something or didn't muzzleloader season end a couple weeks ago?

Yeah, I had to do a doubletake, too...and then reread "100 grain". Congrats tskin. I've been in this situation before...and yes, your meat will be just fine.

the only problem you might have is the deer will not all thaw at the same time, and when it gets warm enough to process some of it can also spoil WATCH CLOSLY

Actually she didn't freeze up after all guys. The processor told me it wouldn't have hurt her even if she had - just makes their job harder. Sorry for the confusion on "shockwave," I was referring to the NAP expandable broadhead!!!! Thanks!

A deer (hide on) could remain frozen for quite a long time before processing without doing it any real harm. Weather that is too warm for hanging is obviously bad for aging meat. Weather that is too cold generally does no harm, but you may as well butcher it, because if it freezes it is not aging anyway.
