I talked to a guy, back during archery about a relatively new powder for muzzleloaders that burns so much cleaner than Hodgens or 777. I didnt write it down and my memory isnt what it use to be.. Does anyone know what I'm refering to? If so what else can you tell me about preformance, with this product. Thanks in advance. I think its smokeless. I'll know it if I hear it again.

definitely BH209. No buildup like BP or BP subs. In the past I have always struggled getting "happy groups" in my ML but not anymore with BH209.
This isn't smokeless, it still produces some smoke just not nearly what BP does.

I havent used any smokeless powder in my m/l but have had excellent groups and satisfaction using Pyrodex 777 pellets in my inline with powerbilt aerotip rounds in it. I dont think I will ever try to switch to something else !

pure smokeless powder, aka rifle powder, is very dangerous in regular muzzy,s. i shoot a savage with smokeless and timex has a custom barrel for his pro hunter that is designed to shoot smokeless powder. no smoke no fowling the barrel more range great accuracy and the best part no cleaning. plus smokeless doesnt draw moisture like blackpowder does. probally wont ever shoot regular black powder again except when we hunt illonois with them.

Who made the barrel for the Encore?
I totally agree with the smokeless/rifle powder statements. Make sure you are using powder that is SAFE for YOUR gun. The majority of muzzleloaders are blackpowder or black powder substitute (pyrodex, 777, BH 209, etc) ONLY. Savage and some other custom makers do make some that can use regular smokeless powder.

check with timex on the smokeless barrel for the encore. SMI makes them as he pointed out in another thread so i am assuming thats where he got his.

I may have to pick up a barrell from SMI for the Encore..........another frame wouldn't hurt either.......a nice set of wood for it would really set it off...........now what to put on top of it......

To me, the aroma of black powder enhances the muzzleloader experience.....I must be some old school romantic....
