Are You Planning to hunt a State Park next year based upon this years results? What Parks are going to be the hot spots next year? I know that I will be looking at some other places after this years hunt at Versailles. Most of the guys that I talked to did not even see a deer in the second hunt. The DNR officers that were assisting also said that they were seeing only a few and that the park needed a rest from the hunts for a while. I did end up with a average 8 point, but saw only a few deer and heard very little shooting.

I suspect the '08 locations won't be selected until this summer.

I didn't get drawn this year but did a 2nd hunt last year at Brown Co SP and the harvest numbers were low. From what I remember of the numbers from last year after the first day of the first hunt at all the parks the number fell off pretty good. I'll probably put in for a first hunt again but wouldn't bother with the 2nd hunt. On the other hand I'm not hurting for a place to hunt either.

I will put in for the state park hunts again. Depends on which ones are available as to which one I would choose.
I was drawn for Big Oaks but didn't make it. I think Crane was shut down early for an unknown reason, Muskatituc was hit with EHD but have not heard how the hunts went.
These hunts are unique. I go not expecting a dang thing and many times that is what I get. But when they do work out it is nice. I don't have any private land to hunt reliably any more so these special hunts are perfect for me. Wack a doe and go. Win for me and win for the parks.

I have had success over the years, but I think there are hunts that are a waste of time. I read earlier that Harmony and McCormicks Creek done pretty well this year. How did Whitewater do this year?

I will always put in for them, just like this year you never know what may step out in front of you.

Dunes was down fromlast year. The on-site folks said next year will likely be an "off" year.
They seem to do 2 hunts, then rest for 1.

Ive hunted Chain O Lakes the last six years and this year was the worse I ever saw. I checked out on Monday at 4PM and they had less than 10 deer checked in for 95 hunters. I sat on stand from daylight to 4PM and never saw a deer. It was freezing rain the next day so I didn't go and I don't think I missed much. I most likely will apply this year if they hunt it. The deer numbers at Chain O Lakes are definitely way down. h.h.

I wont be going back to Ft. Ben. You got a better chance to hit one with a car there. I am thinking gun hunts next year.

I am going to put in just for the heck of it, they are fun to go to but really undecided about putting in for Crane if they allow hunting there next year. I was on the first hunt this year and saw alot of deer and killed a doe.

Why would you be hisitant? We all knew that they could stop a hunt any time they wanted or is there more to the story that I don't know?

Because Crane canceled the last hunt and the applicants each lost the $20.00 fee and didn't get to hunt. That would be a good enough reason for me not to apply again. h.h.

Crane is getting a new Captain. Mr. Lasota, soon to be Captain Lasota, has bought a little over 130 acres in Green Co. He is a hunter and is planning on retiring here as well. So hopefully hunting will be back on again next season.

I live around Summit lake and have heard from the folks that work the check station there and was told that the numbers are done there too. As I drive around the lake I see a few deer now and then.

Well, congrats to all you/us that take part in these REDUCTION hunts........... It seems we have done our job and done it well, the numbers are down enough to not have hunts now and you can't see from one side of the park to the other for lack of veg. that would be a feather in the hat of the hunting world and amo against the anti's.
The park hunts are to reduce the #'s and ballance nature.... THAT's ALL. Not a barrel shoot for the lucky few that get drawn.
