This question was prompted by a discussion with a fellow hunter from my church.

I always try to pray that the Lord give me a safe hunt first of all and then if we see deer that the Lord give me a clean and successful harvest if I get a shot. Thats just me. I kinda think the old moto sometimes u have not cause u ask not. That does not mean God is going to give me everything that I ask for either!! My opinion for what its worth. God Bless All ;D

As soon as I am settled in my stand and have stopped the heavy breathing from walking in I do say a prayer, but it is not for God to bless me with a deer..
I always pray for the safety of the myself and the other hunters out at that time. I pray that any deer that is shot and mortally wounded that it is a quick and humane death and an easy recovery. I also pray that if it is not a mortal wound that the deer does not suffer and recovers quickly.
I do pray that IF I shoot a deer that the good Lord will allow me to recover it. I have never prayed that I get to kill a deer. Just being out there is enough of God's blessing for me. Being 70 years old I thank God for the blessing of being physically, financially, and mentally able to get out and enjoy His nature.
We've only got so many hunts in us.. enjoy them all.

My prayer is the same as deerslayer73 and thank him for the oppertunity to be out there to witness all the beautiful things in nature he has created for us to enjoy. I've got 3 boys that play sports, hunt, and race atvs. For that the prayer is pretty much the same, help them to do their best, keep them safe, and have fun. Not for a win or to shoot a monster, if it's meant to be it will be....... if we score thats a bonus. I for one have a blast just being there

First I ask for a safe hunt and to enjoy the time with my son or friends or just by myself. And Yes I do pray that HE send along a big boy. Never hurts to ask.

I thank the lord if I harvest a deer. I never pray to see deer though. He has blessed us with enough by puting them here. There is plenty other things that we should pray for and seeing a deer is not one of them. JMO

I always pray before I head out to hunt for the safety & the wisdom to make the right decisions based on what Mother Nature offers up & a thank you prayer if it all comes togather...

Well as soon as I sit down in my stand I pray that the Lord take care of me and my family that's hunting. I then pray for all the other hunters out there that they are safe for the day. I then ask that my brothers and sister and dad get to see deer. And that He will give them a shot and if they shoot I pray that they hit. I do pray that the Lord give me a good hunt and if it's His will that He would let me see some deer and possibly get a shot. It's all up to Him anyways. He has blessed me with many things. All the answers or post above are good. I do also think that you have not because you ask not. I also believe that there are more important things to ask for or pray for. But I'm in the tree for no less than 6-8 hours every time so I've got plenty of time to ask for all the other things. I also think the Lord wants you to ask him for anything and everything. Small and Big it doesn't not matter to Him. If you ask for everything then He knows you know where it's coming from. But also thank Him when you get what you ask for. No thing is to big or to small for Him. (Not saying to ask for a monter buck or stuff that you don't need, or asking for all the want items. Just regular things....)I do also pray or let the Lord know I'm thankful for many things while I am hunting. Even the tree rats that come in and the other animals that come in and I can't see them and I think they are deer and my heart starts beating faster.... I enjoy the excitment. Even if it's not a deer. I try to thank Him for it all. Even when I see nothing which this year is an every day thing... LOL.. BB

Nothing recharges my batteries like being alone with God in a treestand. We have nice long conversations about his glorious creation as it comes to life around me in the morning sun, my blessings and concerns in life outside the woods, and just catch up on things that should have been said long ago, had I only taken the time to "be still and know...."
Honestly, I never pray for anything huge to come my way, though I admit to asking for divine intervention when my kids are doing the hunting with me.

Always pray in the stand before sun up , pray a little after sun up as well. More like talking to the lord not real structured. It helps me re align myself in my thinking and my actions....
I do give thanks for blessing my family in all the ways he has... I do ask for a opportunity to harvest one of his fine animals to feed my family with. I do not ask for one with antlers or one without just one to harvest....
Eating on jerkey I made last night now

That is almost exactly what I do. After getting settled in my stand and talking to my hunting partners via radio to make sure they are tied in, I say a prayer similar to Woody's to keep us safe and thank Him for the opportunity to enjoy His creation. If I do kill a deer, I always thank God for allowing me to take one of His creatures. I have never done that in front of another person as that is very personal to me and that is my moment to give thanks.

I'm alot like you Woody..I thank the Lord for keeping me safe and ask for protection and a succesful hunt. Also that if I'm blessed enough to see a deer I may harvest it cleanly...Amazing us hunters aren't so different..we all think alike to a certain degree....I thank the Lord everyday I wake up healthy..cause really that's all that matters is good health, family and friends...
