I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I would rather kill the skunk bucks I do rather than do the things Don does to kill his ONE deer. Some of these things seem a bit extreme....... • 1. I don't kill does. Does need to be harvested and they are, in droves, all around me. I let everyone else shoot up their space, as my farm becomes a sanctuary from killing, gutting, tracking and dragging all year. • 2. I don't overhunt the farm. Other than my kids, no one else but me hunts my farm. It is the beauty of owning land, regardless of the size. I also don't hunt small game, birds, mushrooms or anything else on the farm. I also certainly do not have any livestock or allow logging. • 3. I don't use or allow motorized vehicles. Other than to plant food plots, my atv sits in the garage. The 215-pound buck I killed this year required a heck of an effort to get him back to the road using only muscle power, but it was worth it. • 4. I created a refuge and never hunt it. I identified a dense 40-acre section in the middle of my farm, marked the boundaries and haven't stepped foot in it for five years. • 5. I control predators and trespassers. I have pressed charges against one of my neighbors and kill as many coyotes as I can all year. Since it is illegal to shoot even wild dogs in Indiana, I go great efforts to fence them out or gather and take them to the pound. • 6. I work hard all year. While others are fishing and playing all summer, I am at the farm, taking care of food plots, fixing fences and sweating through about a hundred other chores that improve the lives of deer. ""I have pressed charges against one of my neighbors"" ? WOW! |

I don't think they are extreme at all, we do just about the same thing on our farm. It has been working just great for 30 plus years. We kill more big bucks off of our 280 acres than anybody close to us.

So much for OBR not working.....I went to Boone and Crocket watch website and seen no less than 6 big bucks killed in Indiana...Potential Boone and Crocket deer form 2009 this season, and we still got Muzzleloader yet...hmmm.  |

I don't think they are extreme at all, we do just about the same thing on our farm. It has been working just great for 30 plus years. We kill more big bucks off of our 280 acres than anybody close to us. The sanctuary is an excellent idea and would be the best one to follow out of all the "extreme" things done. Deer will remain where they feel safe, irregardless of the human actions going on around them. Monster bucks in suburban areas are bombarded with human influences. |

I don't see anything extreme either?  Although I would try to give them more than a 40 acre refuge. So much for OBR not working.....I went to Boone and Crocket watch website and seen no less than 6 big bucks killed in Indiana... 6 bucks on the B&C website is all that it takes to convince you that it is working? |

Folks, let me explain.
To me....they are a bit extreme.
I deer hunt for rest and relaxation.....I don't want it to be a JOB I want it to be PLAY TIME!
The very last thing I would want is a WAR with my neighbor...........
Pressing charges and giving "your neighbor" a criminal record is a bit extreme........to me. I guess I am assuming that there was no conversations or freindly chat asking the fella to stay off the land.

If it's WORK you should get paid for it........oh wait a minute....he does!

Other than his check, he did get paid for his effort. He shot the deer that he was after.
I "worked" a lot this summer on my food plots. Have pictures of great bucks and got paid when I got to share a blind with my Dad for the first time in 17 years and watch him miss a shot at his first turkey that came in to eat some clover. Something that wouldn't have happened had I not "worked".
It takes a lot to start a war with your neighbor. Mine has called the State Police on me telling them that they thought I was a person that they were looking for, put salt blocks and piles of corn around my stands and we still talk ;D

Am I missing something here? I thought the muzzy season was 12/5 through 12/20?
How do we have deer taken in Indiana after 11/29, but prior to 12/5 with Muzzleloaders?

He was killed about 350 yards from my front door! |
