How much do you call in an avg. hunt? I try to do a little about every half hour. What do the veterans think is too much or too little. Had some idiot the other day at purdue national forest that made me listen to his can call about 600 times in 5 hours Some guys just crack me up!

Depends on time of year and location imo. I personally don't do much "blind calling" with a grunt or can call. I incorporate the grunt in with some rattling, usually towards the end of Oct and 1st week of Nov. Those sessions usually last a minute or so about every hour. I have never had much luck with the grunt or can unless I am calling to a buck I can see.

I've got a guy who hunts the neighboring property who uses rattling horns every 15 minutes everytime he hunts. He starts as soon as it gets daylight on opening morning and he does it everytime he is in there. I like to use the can call during the seeking phase, i called in 3 bucks this year with it. I only use the grunt call on a deer i can see. I was hunting tonight on the edge of a corn field and seen a big bodied deer 200 yards out, it had just came out of the unpicked part of the field. I tried 5-6 real short and sharp grunts, this deer lifted his head and sprinted to 40 yards from me. It was simply too dark for me to see his head so i did not shoot.

Exactly... See the buck, call the buck, kill the buck. Anything more is a waste of air.

I try not to call unless a buck I see is heading away from me. I have never been much of a blind caller. I like the element of suprise. If I am calling, then the deer are looking for something and might bust me. The only call I made this year was a mouth grunt to stop a deer in an opening. I am sure others have good luck with calling, it's just not for me.
