Im raging mad.Because I was busy this week I allowed a longtime friend and fellow hunting partner to use my hunting spot and stand.Keep in mind this is a spot that every muzzleloader season i can set my watch by when the deer come thru. Went there today to replace shooting rest as it broke last time i used it.My stand had beer cans all over ground and cigerettes everywere.Even bottles of pee in stand.cleaned it all up but wonder if this spot will be ruined.

It will probably still be good.
I'd have a heart to heart talk with him about this. I don't think I'd be a hunting partner with anyone who drank beer in the stand.

First make sure it was your friend that trashed the place. Possible Trespassers may have done it after your friend.

It will be fine. And even if it isn't, it will be back to normal next year for sure.

I don't think I'd be a hunting partner with anyone who drank beer in the stand. You know.....I never understood drinking beer in your deer stand. I occasionally see beer cans in the woods and I always wonder......how did ther get there? No........I would say if your drinking beer in your deer stand, you have a problem!

Was this on your property? If so, could you be held liable if he was drunk and fell out of the tree and got hurt/killed?

Indiana has a law preventing law suits by people who use your land for recreation.

IMHO - Give him an ulitmatum.. Seek help or the friendship is over. I would not want anyone around me with a beer in one hand and a gun in the other..

I would find a new hunting partner! Are you serious.............beer cans under the stand? Most of my friends including myself love a few beerz on the weekends but thats crazy. If you can't seperate hunting from your drinking then you have a serious problem.

Hey southpaw. Good for you! Some things in life are basic and REAL SIMPLE. GUNS AND BOOZE MAKE A DEADLY COMBINATION! I agree with Woody - give him an ultimatum, but by God stand your ground. People like your "friend" just set me off.. RRRRRR... You can give him a chance on the friendship, but to the best of your ability, don't let him take one step toward your huntin' property.

I always take a bag to put my beer cans in, and an ash can for my butts. How inconsiderate?? I'm kidding - how bout some folks, it's getting to the point where nothing suprises me anymore. He actually admitted it and laughed it off??

Southpaw - we have a firm rule in our group... no drinking until the hunt is over and the guns are unloaded and packed up for the day... As was said, drinking while hunting, particularly while in a stand, is just plain idiotic... trashing the place is small potatoes compared to the drinking while hunting...
Sounds your buddy needs to get some counseling if he's going off the deep end like you say, and as a friend, you could recommend as much, but until he gets it together, him drunk in the woods makes him a hazard to himself and everyone else around him...
In the hunter ed class I took with my son, they showed a video full of people who had shot a hunting partner for one stupid reason or another, and one of them was a guy that had a few hunting on the ground, heard a noise of a twig snapping and leaves rustling on the other side of a brush pile, and started popping slugs at the noise... it was his partner coming over to tell him he was getting cold and was heading to the truck... guy took two rounds to the chest and died before medical help could arrive...
Hunting safety is serious business, and if you ignore the rules, it may "result in serious injury or death"...
