my crane hunt was a bust along with a lot of others thinking somewhere around 80 deer killed yesterday. had 2 does come in about 50 yrds aroud 10:00 that were geting ready to beddown so i was going to let them hang around awhile to see if a buck would show if not i,d let the big one have it when i caught some movement in the brush . low and behold 2 bobcats were sneeking up on the 2 deer i realy think they could of got the little 1 down. but off ran my deer with the cats right behind . did,nt see another deer. never heard a shot past 1:00 probably wo,nt go back. not for 20 bucks it cost. does anybody knows where all that money goes. about 50,000 dollars worth seems like a rip off

I always enjoy the Crane hunt. I have seen enough big ones shot down there to keep the hunt hopeful. My Dad works on Crane base and said a Bopbcat was hit by a car last week so there must be a fairly large population of them in hte area.

$20 is a very reasonable fee. I doesn't bother me what they do with it.
The entire last hunt was cancelled two years ago and everyone including myself lost their fee. I'd still go back.

Administrative fees...paper work, paper work, paperwork then include the extra security on weekends to cover the inflow of extra gun toting visitors, manning the check station, etc...Crane more then likely lost money on the deal (it is run by the gubmint)!

$20 isn't that big a deal to me... And to me sounds like you had a great day. Don't get to see a bobcat often where I hunt. Maybe they are common in your area. But to watch what you got to watch would have been the best hunt for me all year. That had to be cool to see. How close did they get?

I would take the Crane hunt over any of the states hunt bar none, Great area, good times, Love to be in the mature hard woods they have, makes you feel like you have stepped through a time warp and are hunting Indiana 100yrs ago before the woods were cleared off. The hunt to me and others is much more than just taking a deer, just the opportunity to hunt in Crane is award enough for me, I feel very forunate to have hunted it several times when I was stationed here in Indiana, and looking forward to the day when I am drawn again. Like bigballer said, look at the bigger picture, you were able to see a bobcat, I have never laid eyes on one, sure its not a whitetail but you saw and animal that most here Indiana will never see in the wild at all.

The last time I hunted at Crane, back in 1977, it didn't cost be a thing to hunt there. All one had to do is get drawn for the hunt. My how things have changed!!
