That does not bother me at all.
I get tired of just the opposite. My family eats 2-3 deer per year and I shoot whatever I have the opputunity at to meet those ends whether it is a 2 1/2 year old buck or 3 does. But I do get tired of hearing things like "If you let some does go, you might see a big buck", or "That might have been a nice buck someday if you let him grow up". I hunt for a lot of reasons but shooting a big buck is not my main goal. Don't get me wrong, I would shoot a monster if he walked by, but I would rather have a doe. If you butcher you own meat you can see the difference in the meat. I have hunted for 27 years and have always done it this way.

If it is all luck, woodmaster is the luckiest man on the planet. He shoots two huge bucks year after year.
As for me I am way overdue for the big one. Every year I think, will this be the year?

It doesn't bother me at all. I have a good friend who went out many years ago with his girlfriends father , he ended up killing a very nice wall hanger guess what , he only hunted a few times after that and doesn't hunt to this day guess he thinks it's easy

As long as it is legal it shouldn't matter what someone else thinks. If you are only out there to impress someone you may be hunting for the wrong reasons.

Never really let how anyone killed a big buck bother me, as long as it was legal. To each thier own. I try to keep positive about the sport and enjoy my experiences, worrying about others takes away from that.

i started this post so after all the answers i will respond. I hunt because I enjoy being in the woods. I dont shoot small bucks, as I have passed about 10 bucks up the past 3 years I could have killed. I look for a nice buck early, but come last week of ML if I have an open tag it is dead. I dont think that there is a hunter on here that would be telling the truth if a young spike and a bruiser 10 came in together they would take the young buck because the meat tastes better. So as far as hunting to impress people, that is not the case. But I, along with every other hunter, would love to take a big buck. It just aggervates me the goofy stories you here about how some people get them. It is not jealousy as much as frustration for how I try to do everything right in the woods and get shut out, and some guy comes into the woods at 8:30 smoking his cigarette and 10 minutes later kills a big buck

I hunt for meat, usually early season but when Halloween rolls around I'm a trophy hunter. December comes in and we are back to looking for backstraps! I kind of see what you are talking about gc39, felt that way before, but it's going to happen so why sweat it. I have no jealousy for people if they kill a bruiser, as long as it's not bigger than the one I kill, then I hate them...lol

In 25+ years of hunting I have had my share of good fortune and bad luck also. I agree with maddog , I try and not let it bother me to much . There was a time when I felt the way that you feel but not any more . I try and not compare myself with other deer hunters and just focus on what I need to do to be successful . I also agree with raporter , Luck is the residual of Hard Work .

I enjoy the stories of any deer hunter who takes a deer LEGALLY and in a SPORTSMANLY way.If that person gets it his first trip in 5 minutes then he was lucky. Not one of us can say we havent wished for the same.what i dont like is hunting my tail of in all kinds of weather to fill my freezer getting nothing only to find a nice buck lying in the woods shot and beheaded or to see hunters in public areas drinking and littering.I will contact DNR. thats my life and fellow hunters in them woods your putting in danger

Many hunters have lucked into one or two wall hangers during their hunting careers. Luck isn't much of a factor for the guys that put big ones on the wall every year. Generally they work at it a whole lot harder and smarter than the average dude.

C'mon guys.... It doesn't bother you just a little bit when you see some moron come back with a booner ? I admit that it bothers me some.... Why do dipsticks and rule-benders get repeated chances at big deer?
Now a kid, or some other average joe hunter, that doesn't bother me a bit. I'm genuinely glad when someone gets a nice deer.
It seems I've hunted so many years, doing it legal, doing my part and taking does, even passing small bucks for seven years, and the only good shot I get at a big one, the shotgun shell doesn't go off. I think it's only natural to think, when am I going to get a chance?

Over half of the equation is luck and where you hunt, so no reason to get upset about someone elses biggin, imo. I will say the guys that don't ever accept the fact that luck played a part in thier harvest, that bothers me. Even the best of us need some luck.

Nope! Even after all of the long hours of year around pre-hunt planning invested each season I can attribute a few kills to just plain luck due to the unique & unanticipated circumstances of the kills. I have a 25 yr. old deer hunting apprentice that I am breaking-in this year. He is hungry to learn & absorbs everything that I show & tell him without question. He has filled 2 doe tags so far. One was a toughy as a result of poor shot placement when he was hunting by himself. Doe shot @ 4:30PM & eventually recovered at 9:00PM after an awesome individual tracking job in the dark with very little blood to follow. The boy was motivated & was not going to quit until he recovered her.
