Sorry for not getting to this until now...got a little warm yesterday afternoon and I had to get that deer in the cooler ( extra refrigerator). That was NOT the biggest buck I saw yesterday! The first one came through about 100 SE of me but was on a line to intersect the stand that my daughter was on west of me, so I was going to let him walk and see if she would have a shot at him-it was at least a 10 point with a wide rack that looked like it had some mass too....but he turned and headed north-never got within 100 yards of me, just too far through the woods to chance a shot. About 0730 I heard something come crashing through the woods from my south-thought at first it was a dog since it was really dark colored. Then I could see a ways behind it was a deer that was chasing it....what was a deer doing chasing a dog?....DUH!....it's a buck chasing a really dark colored doe ;D. The doe got within about 50 yards east of me and slowed down so I knew that there wouldn't be a chance of the two taking a line towards my daughter so I settled in and waited for a shot. I could tell from a first glance at the buck that he had a nice rack but was just waiting for a clear shot and concentrated on the boiler room. He finally stopped about 70 yards east of me with a clear shot so I took it. The Knight spoke and a 348 gr Powerbelt pushed by two 50 gr Triple Seven pellets went on it's way. The smoke cleared and the buck was just standing there....didn't move, didn't flinch but was looking at me. OH CRUD!!! I missed!!!! So I'm waiting for it to turn it's head so I can try to reload real quick but was shaking a bit because by now I had had a chance to really look at those antlers He started to take a step and then he was toddering sideways...YES!!! I did hit him!!!!! Long story short he couldn't go very far with two scrambled lungs. He's got ten countable points-at least one of the points on the right side was broke off and rubbed down to main beam. Pine Village check-in doesn't have a scales but I would say he easily hit the 180-190# range field dressed. Sorry but me, computers and cameras just don't agree. My wife put the pics that I took with my camera in the woods on my facebook page if you want to see those let me know. Hopefully my daughter gets a shot at the other one I saw. Dan-missed you at breakfast! Grandpa Harry came out and Mike was over-fixed some of the SC wild hog sausage in gravy along with the usual biscuits and fried taters.
