Had a chance to get out for one more bow hunt this morning before gun season starts. Got settled in the the climber 40min or so before light and had several deer walking around just before light. Every other morning hunt this year I have set until 10-11am even though the latest I have seen anything was 907 last weekend. By 930 I had not seen a deer so I figured I'd get on down since I hadnt slept since work last night and had to work again tonight. Within 5 minutes I was strapping the Summit together when I look up and there is a 120" 8pt at 25yds and closing. I just stood there with my bow on the ground 5ft away still tied to bow rope. The buck didnt pay much attention to me and when he passed behind a tree I took 1 big step and got down by my bow. Now hes 15yds broadside in the open wondering what the blob of faded camo is next to that tree. Over the next couple minutes he stood there looking around, every time he would look away I would would get ready. Pulled arrow out of the quiver, unhooked bow rope, pulled release out of jacket, nocked arrow, etc. Finally I was ready so I waited and as he took a step back to his right and facing away I stood up and drew my bow. Unfortunately instead of making the 180 turn I thought he would make, he stopped at 90 facing directly away from me and just turned his head around facing me. I had come so far and was now at full draw with the best buck Ive had a shot at this year and 1 I would proudly tag and be able to relax on the vacation next week. We had a brief stare down at 15yds when he finally decided he didnt like me anymore and slowly bounded away.
