Well I know it happens to everyone, but I have never missed! I was on stand last Wensday and began rattling and grunting at first light, hoping that the cool morning might bring something my way. It had been a very "quiet" year for me. Usually I see quite a few deer and can pick and choose what I want to shoot at. This year had produced very little run ins with any deer. Well this morning would be different! I had heard what I thought was a squirrel and then I caught his movement. I could see him just on the edge of the treeline and could see he was a buck...probably a 6 or 8 point. I stood in my stand to get ready and just as he stepped into the field he looked right up at me. When he faced me I now knew he wasn't 6 or 8, but a beautiful 12 point. Not only did he already have me located but the HUGE adrenaline dump now had my body and bow shaking. He continued to step, look at me, step, look at me and wouldn't allow me to get a draw on him. I could see he was tensing up(he was only 25 yards away) and knew he was getting ready to bolt. I figured I had to get a shot off at any cost because I probably would never get a chance like this again! Needless to say...I drew...he jumped....and I was left with a miss and a sickening feeling. The second it was over I thought of all the things I shoulda done(remain calm, mouth call, don't look at the rack over and over) but it isn't making me feel any better. Well maybe my story will help someone else feel better about their hunt. Season aint over!

It happens. I blew a gimmie shot today on a nice buck 23 yards broadside....I pulled the bow and looked up fast to see where I hit the deer, jerked it to the right. Shake it off.

If it doesn't happen at least once in your life you're very lucky.

Now you have your bad shot out of your system.

I've missed a few with a bow (missed one at 25yds this weekend myself). If this is the only miss you have with a bow you're doing well. I agree, I rather miss than make a poor shot.

Man that sucks. But as it's been said so many times, "If you hunt long enough (especially with a bow) it's bound to happen." I know there's not much solace in my comment. You're probably visualizing the hunt, the rack, and all the other details of the hunt right now. However, tomorrow is another day and there will be other opportunities. Good luck and go get 'em.

be thankfull you had a clean miss. If the shot aint perfect...dont take it. there's no margin for error with archery gear. misses happen, dont get me wrong. but trying to "force" the shot usually ends up in a bad "lost one today" story.
