Had a nice mature doe come out just before 8am this morning into a cut corn field about 35 yards from me. I hit her hard and she took off low ballin it towards a creek bottom. I lost sight of her but my best friend, Perry, was in another stand and he could see her walking very slowly towards the creek. She disappeared into the trees in the creekline. I waited about till about 9:30 as i still have another doe tag and he still has his buck and two doe tags. I picked up good blood where i hit her and even though I knew where she went into the creek bottom, i trailed her for practice. Perry stayed up in his stand so he could let me know exactly where she hit the creek. I followed the blood to a spot where the deer normally cross and sure enough she had went down into the creek. The creek is way up right now and luckily she was in the water down the bank on my side. Perry brought my 4 wheeler over and we backed up to the steep bank and lowered me down a tow strap into the creek. Thank goodness for my Lacrosse 18" alpha burly boots. I hooked up the tow rope around her neck and he pulled her up the bank. He then had to lower it back down to me as the bank is about 10 feet tall and very steep and muddy. Got her dressed out and I had hit her a little far back. She went a total of about 300 yards and bled all the way. It was a good day! hunting with my best friend and more meat for the freezer.
