1 of the woods I'm hunting this year i was really excited about..when i first got permission and went in there..there were trails everywhere..these woods haven't been hunted in several years..i was excited, but i have never seen any in there???i went from the inside to the edge over the beans.have seen some out there.just not close enough..why is this..is it cause of the hot weather or do they go to the woods more in the rut...trying to learn.. these damn deer r smarter than i ever gave them credit for......the woods r about 40 acres in the middle of a 1 mile square block with cut beans and standing corn////luv this site. a conservation officer told me about it and now I'm looking every day...thanks matt..tippicanoe county

I don't know why you aren't see any Deer, in your hunt area. It might be the warm weather or lack of certain foods like Acorns or field crops like corn. Deer don't really like eating mature soybeans as they like them while they are still green & growing. Also your area isn't known for large Deer Populations.

Standing corn could be part of the problem.

Standing corn could be part of the problem. I agree that might be part of the problem, as the Deer might be hiding in that cornfield. Are you seeing any signs at all where you want to hunt??

kdog, I'd honestly think your big problem is the standing corn. I wouldn't advise going out and stomping up that 4 acre patch. While you are bowhunting, try placing a stand where you can watch that patch. You may not get a shot at the big boy, with your bow, but you'd have a decent pattern on him for gun season, AND they might get the danged corn picked. JMHO

Sounds as if you have Deer where you are planning to hunt. Just hope they don't decide to harvest the corn a week before or during Gun Season. This change might scare off any Deer or they will only be active at night.
