How many of you guys are using Hitch Hauls (platform that slides into your hitch receptacle) to haul your deer home? I've been thinking of getting one for next year so I don't have to borrow my Dad's truck to go hunting. Any problem holding the deer securely? Can you carry more than one deer?

I've made up several and they work well. I would recommend after securing your deer to it then wrap a blue tarp over it. Keeps the road debris off it and out of sight of those who don't seeing them.

Hey Guys..
I got one that I have been using for about 8 years and it is GREAT!!! It is MUCH easier to "flop" the deer onto it instead of hauling it up into the bed of the truck.
It also helps keep the bed of your truck clean of deer hair and blood.. not to mention it keeps the truck smelling somewhat better.
All I have to do is simply pull the hitch pin, slide the trailer hitch out of the receiver and then just slip the hauler into the receiver channel, replace the hitch pin and I am READT TO HUNT.
I normally use a couple ratchet straps to attach the deer. One around the deer's neck and the other around the deers flanks and then just cinch it down. (I often use a plastic cover if I have to drive through town or around people that might take exception...)
GOOD HUNTING.. Bud Fields

I probably need to get one, because if I shoot anything much bigger than the 5 pt I shot this year, it will not fit in the trunk of my cavalier.

You also do not have to lift the deer as high with a hitch haul.

I got one for that purpose....... then got a 4wheeler for haulin them out with a trailer so I guess I'll not know how well the hitch haul works cause theres room for the deer behind the 4wheeler.

I bought a hitch n haul at Wal mart this spring. I got tired of spending 8-10 dollars at the car wash every time I hauled a deer. I usually kill 3-5 deer a year and sometimes I haul my hunting buddies to state hunts with me. I cut a piece of plywood, painted it and bolted it to the bottom. I will probably drill some drain holes in it eventually. I usually wrap the deer with a tarp and use two ratchet straps. I have hauled a few deer on it now and it works great. I also bought the hitch pin lock so nobody could steal it. I have never hauled two deer at once on it but I have seen others do it. I believe it has a 500 lb carrying capacity. I think I paid $50 for the hitch n haul and $12 for the hitchpin lock. I plan on hooking it to the back of my camper to haul firewood in the summer. I am glad I bought it.

I have a jeep Cherokee, so I had to get one when I moved away and couldn't bum my brother's truck. I have since carried a lot of deer home on it. I just strap the deer down with several bungee cords. In spite of my fear that I'd look in the rearview and see the deer laying in the road, they have never even shifted position, much less fallen off. I got home once and was moving the deer around when I noticed that it had a charred foot. It took me a minute to figure out that the hoof had rode home up against the exhaust pipe! Get somebody to help hold things when you put it together. It is a handful to put together with only two hands.

I have a jeep Cherokee, That's why I got one, the last 2 I killed rode home on the roof and the first one was on a deer cart sitting up like granma from national lampoons vaction. We was the poster child for politically INcorrectness of how to transport deer that day! ;D

I've owned SUV's for nearly twenty years now and have had one all that time. It's great for all kinds of things, especially smelly-messy stuff like dead deer and fuel, or fuel burning tools like chainsaws, etc. Mine is rated for 500lbs, but I know I've had more on it.
My father-in-law borrowed my steel one to bring a bunch of meat home from Texas, had a wreck and wrecked my hitch haul, they were fine - Thank God. I currently use an aluminum one and it's a whole lot easier to handle, I'm not sure I'd push the load limits like I did with the steel one though.
As far as I'm concerned, it's a must have!

I've got the one from Rural King. Me 2 but I wouldn't have if they'd not ticked off the wife. They wouldn't let her use a 20% off coupon on the big dog buddy stand cause it was already on sale so she said....................go get the hitch haul, we'll use it on THAT! Made folks wait while Chadd and I went to the BACK of the store to get it! Usually when mamma ain't happy, the ol mans havin fun. (and nobodys happy later) but this time Mamma got mad........Daddy got happy! ;D

I have one but don't use it for hauling deer. Something about all the road grime and mud flippin up on it I don't care for.
I do know a guy who got sued because a lady in a parking lot didn't see it sticking out from his hitch tripped over it and sued him ! lol Now he carried a red trafdfic cone on it when he puts it in his hitch. True story !
