I hunted HARD Thursday through Saturday. The wind was horrendous and blowing from all 42 directions (I don't really know how many directions, but I counted at least 42!) I missed a doe on Thursday at 27 yards (shot just over her back, I judged her at 30), but that was the only deer I saw (from my stand) all weekend! I went from seeing 6 to 13 deer per sit, to nothing. I can never convince myself to sit out the "lull". I always say this year will be different, but my hunting journal tells the story. The days of Oct. 20 through about Oct. 30 are a dead zone for deer activity. I know, I have killed a couple deer during these times over the years, but never a good buck. My deer sightings always go down, often to zilch. I get pretty down in confidence levels every year about this time. I don't know why I let myself get this way every year. I know it is coming, but I walk right into it anyway. I guess that is all a part of "earning" the good hunts you have.
Halloween usually ushers in the best 2 weeks of the season, so chins up lads, it is going to get better!

I hunted yesterday morning (Saturday) & only saw a few does, although I did hear a buck grunting behind me. I saw a guy checking in a nice 9 pointer at the Gander Mountain in Terre Haute today & the guy doing the checking in said they'd checked in a lot of bucks so far today including a 225 pound field dressed deer.
