Well I have lasted as long as I could..... but in the end I had to give in to fate.... I have scheduled my hand surgery for the 14th (they wanted to do it sooner but I wanted to hunt a few more days first) It is nothing major... just have a ganglion cyst over my radial artery (cyst has wrapped it all up) and it has gotten so large that it is compressing the nerves in my hand..... Been putting this off for a looooooooooooong time.... actually popped the cyst myself (used a dictionary) before bow season so I could hunt..... for anyone that considers this ... take my advice... it hurts... and it causes more problems than it fixes... creates a lot of scar tissue around the area... and causes more pain when the cyst comes back.....

My oldest daughter had one of those removed several years ago. Had to have it done twice to get rid of all of it. Good luck on your surgery.

Good luck. I heard of the "whacking it" treatment and it just did not sound like something that should be done.

Think I had one of those for a while... A couple of years ago I was driving, turned the wheel and my left wrist "popped". Hasn't been the same since.
Being a landscaper, I kinda need both hands, and the left wrist/hand won't carry the same wieght as my right without pain. Back in September/October the cyst was getting pretty bad, causing all kinds of pain. After I figured out what it was, I finally popped it. Just pressed on it with my other thumb, increasing the pressure until it popped. It surprised me how little it took. It hurt, but it was a "heebie-jeebie" kind of hurt, hard to describe. Shot all the way up my arm. Lost sensation in my hand later that night too. After that subsided (the next morning) my hand/wrist has been fine, though I still get pain with it on occasion but not nearly as much or as bad as before.
If it crops back up again, I'll talk to the doctor about it and get it completely removed.
Good luck with the surgery! I don't blame you one bit for wanting to wait a while!

When you guys "popped" the cysts, did stuff squirt out or was it all internal?

All internal for me. That was the "heebie-jeebie" part of the hurt.

Too bad. I hope it works out. I have these giant, reocurring oil cysts in various places. It's creepy when you can stick a needle a full inch in your face and not feel it. Mine usually go away for a year before coming back. I probably should let them swell up and have the doc do it right. Never type "cyst" into Youtube. Here is the grossest zit video ever: www.youtube.com/watch?v=2WoV6eZ5Plk

I know what you mean danf..... I tried popping mine with little pressure but it was rooted deep.... so I had no luck.... that is why the dictionary came out.... they used to call them "bible bumps" because back in the good ole days that was how they would treat them.... hit them with a bible until they popped....

At least you are doing the right thing now Sleazy, I am a bad one for never going to the doctor until I am bad enough I need hospitalized,,lol. I do hope everything goes ok for ya.Danf ? I would see a doctor that stuff thats inside the cyst you popped could be causing or starting internal infection, would hate to see ya get gang green .

If it was going to cause infection, it would have done it by now... It's been a couple of months.

Trust me partner... I understand where you are coming from. I LIVE to deer hunt!! I spend hours practicing, hours scouting my area and when the season opens, I spend more hours in a tree stand than most ten hunters and in more weather conditions than other hunters.
I know many hunters say, "I am NOT going hunting today... it is SUPPOSED to rain.." I DON'T normally do that. I look for ways to GET THINGS DONE and unless it is a "GULLY-WASHER," I will be out there...
I had practiced ALL year and had my confidence at an extremely high-level and I was counting down the days until Opening Day of bow season. I was noticing some discomfort in my lower neck and back area and discovered that I needed surgery. I tried to prolong the procedure until AFTER deer season but that was not in the plans.
I had a pretty intense surgery and I am OUT OF PAIN but it really eliminated alot of my deer hunting for this season. I missed the entire Early Archery and I did manage to get out during the Firearms and Muzzleloader season but I will miss the Late Archery.
Oh well... there is always next season and at least I am NOT in the excruciating pain that I had before. It sure is a BIT--getting old!! Don't take your hunting for granted fellas.
Good Hunting Everybody.. Bud Fields

Hey I am right there with you guys! I have been having a lot of pain in my lower back for a few months now and there were days I could barely walk but yet I pushed myself to be out in the woods hunting. After a few weeks of my back hurting off and on it finally just went out one day and I could not do anything - after 10 days of severe pain I finally went to the doctor and in for an MRI and found out that I have two bulging disc's and one protruding disk plus some heavy disk degeneration. My deer season is over for this year and I have only taken one doe. I am pretty lucky though that I have a great wife to pick up my slack at home and a great boss who jumps in and picks up the physical duties that I am not capable of doing right now. My back problems effect more people than just myself and I am very lucky to be surrounded by such great people.

Sorry to hear about your situations bud and Harley.... I was not in unbearable pain.... I also work in surgery and saw the hand surgeon about 4 days a week at work..... now yes he was harping on me to schedule my surgery...... but if there had been any serious risk I am sure he would have let me know.... I intended to go out this morning.... and take the last kid out again.... but I am sick.... and with this cough we would not have seen any deer.....

Well update for those that are interested..... Had another appointment with the "Doc" today.... and he has decided that I also need a trigger release in my thumb and the cyst is rooted so deep that he does not want to do it as a local... so I will be under general anesthesia. He also decided that I can not be trusted to wear a splint (hey he works with me so he knows I tend to more work than I am allowed by the dr) so I will be in cast for a few weeks...... but at least it will feel better when it is all said and done.
