How does this apply to a lifetime license holder.
I hunt as much as I can, mostly every weekend and this year, several evenings during the week.
I aint killed a doe yet this year......because I aint seen one that offered a shot!

I don't think the current tag price is too outrageous, but I can understand that it does get expensive if you wnat to shoot a bunch of deer.
Personally, I shoot up to 3 a year, so total layout for me isn't too bad. I just don't need more venison than that.

i shotgun only hunt ind with out of state tags the buck tag is 150 and 1st doe tag is 150 plus additional doe tags at 24 that is too much money when i can buy unlimited bonus tags in ky for 15 and thats 2 deer indiana needs to change the tag setup badly the buck tag isnt what i say too high considering illinois tags are around 400 with liscense but come on 150 for a doe

If they cost less....?...lol...What do you want 10 dollar tags or 5 dollars.? <EDIT> did you ever stop to think that money goes for Habitat Improvements,Game Warden salaries, Land Aquisitions, upkeep of State WMAs etc...they can't work for free..I don't mind paying whatever they need to make it work..I consider it a donation and a privledge to hunt...not something someone owes me..Geeze man, were only talking 15 dollars...if you shoot 8 doe you're still only looking at 129.00..most guys have 800.00 bows or shotguns,300.00 scentlok suits,400.00 rangfinders,400.00 doublebull blinds,250.00 boots, 300.00 treestands, and the list goes on, but they can't afford a 15 dollar doe tag...?

It is a valid question and poll.
Not everyone can afford "800.00 bows or shotguns,300.00 scentlok suits,400.00 rangfinders,400.00 doublebull blinds,250.00 boots, 300.00 treestands", much less multiple doe tags.
There has been a LOT of discussions on cheaper tags as a means to help control the herd.
This is another opportunity to discuss that.

How much cheaper can you get... Let's me see, how much "cheaper" could we get... First tag of $24 could be $15..Second tag of $15 could be $10 or even $5. Non residents bonus prices could be $24, just like ours. There are lots of choices, but I did not see "FREE" in the poll? No one said anything about "FREE" tags. Just a valid poll question on less expensive tags for the antlerless deer that the IDNR is desperately trying to control. Look at surrounding states and see - do they charge $24 for a doe tag? I don't think so. BTW - The IDNR has a balancing act of trying to control the herd and raise XX amount of dollars. I have a LL, but I think cheaper bonus tags would result in more antlerless deer being taken and more money for the IDNR in the long run. Good poll, indianaboy.

I disagree..If they set the price to 10 dollars, next year you'd want a 5 dollar tag, then a 2.50 tag, then you want them to pay you to kill their deer...It never ends with some of you guys..

How much cheaper can you get...What do we want free tags? My Goodness where the dignity these days...Everyone wants a Free Lunch.. Kentucky sells them 2 for $15 and in some counties, you can kill all you want.....unlimited. 2 for $15 isn't free nor is the cost associated with hunting them. But it makes it affordable for most folks and facilitates increased harvest numbers.

"Some of you guys"? Kind of finger pointing aren't you? We are trying to have a discussion about the prices of bonus tags and you seem to be attempting to mis-direct the conversation by saying that "Some of you guys" want this or that. Your statement of "that money goes for Habitat Improvements,Game Warden salaries, Land Aquisitions, upkeep of State WMAs etc" is a valid one. . The "It never ends with some of you guys" is not helpful. Thanks, I'll bet if we could get the sales number I'd bet KY sells more 2 for $15 packages than Indiana does the one for $15 deal.

Two for one ,Bonus tags..I hunt Kentucky every year. A resident must first buy a 20.00 hunting license, then a 30.00 deer hunting license for two deer, then you can buy a 15 dollar bonus tag for two more deer.. Misdirect..? we're discussing price...right?...I say the price is right.. so just because I don't share your point if view, I'm misdirecting....okay...?..some of you seem to think you know more than the DNR about everything, deer management, OBR, pricing, quotas....armchair quaterbacks..did you ever look at the DNR budget? They have to function basically like a business..pay employees, and all the other things I already mentioned..What I'm saying 15 is a small price to pay for the privledge of hunting for me....I mean, we do have to pay our own way here...You can't spend more than you take in...Simple economics.. The only thing that's saved hunting thus far ,is the HUGE amount of revenue hunting brings in for the State, and the economy across this Country...If you want to whine about pricing, how bout taxes, gasoline?..... not fees that go right back into a wildlife fund to preserve the sport we all love...they use that money for alot of good things.. if I had to pay 30.00 or 40.00 for a doe tag, I will smile knowing that money is going for habitat improvements, DNR staff, law enforcement,WMAs,land Aquisitions etc.. We're investing in our Hunting heritage aqnd future...Same reason I spend more money every year for the Hunting Heritage license Plates for my Vehicle...It's a great Investment, Unlike many other outlets for my hard earned dollar...Common Sense to me..but I'm Old School..I don't have a problem paying my own way in life, nothings cheap, and their are no free rides..Enjoy wha we have knowing were investing in the future of hunting..

I agree with ridgerunnner here. We can't keep reducing DNR revinue and expect a same level of service. The state just announced $230+ million deficit this past quarter and are not taking anything off the table as far as getting back to the budget.
I guess the DNR will have to make the decision on what is more important to them funds to do the work or attempt to reduce the doe numbers by making them cost less for the hunters. When you look at the cost of doe tags it is pretty cheap. $24 for the first bonus tag and $15 for each after that. That is a single movie ticket, case of beer, or a couple arrows, and bottom line is no matter how cheap your tag is I don't believe there will be any significant increase in harvest. Most guys will

Most guys will I'm not so sure that all bonus tags being $15 will reduce the DNR revenue. I believe that they will sell more tags at $15 and it COULD be enough to make up the difference in price. I'll bet that the IDNR has some bean counters in there that can look at surveys and tell where the break even point is. There is a point where hunters refuse to buy anymore. Look at Illinois's NR archery tags. They pushed the envelope until hunters numbers dropped off, but they are still making a bunch of money. The reverse applies too. Drop the tag prices and hunter numbers will go up. There are break even points with ups and downs. I think that is what this discussion is all about, not whether we all can afford $24 tags or not. Most of us can and a few of us can't. Good question. We do know that a large percentage of the deer are being killed by hunters that do not buy over the counter tags anymore. If we ( LL, landowners, youth and military) had to fork out $24 and $15 a tag would that number go down? I think it would.

whats the total cost of a resident in ind to kill one buck and three does tags and liscense? ky cost is $65 nonresidents in ky only pay $205 for that. that allows them to hunt ANY season. Nonresidents in ind have to pay 150 for each (bow gun and muzzle loader tag) then 150 for the first doe tag and then 24 after that. how many doe tags do you think they sell to out of state guys like me? all im saying is that they would sell a lot more doe taghs to out of state hunters if they lowered the price. and if they sell more tags at a cheaper price then eventually they will make more money. bonus doe tags in ky cost a resident or a nonresident the same $15 if the dnr wants more does killed make it a little more user friendly for everyone

Just an opinion but I agree with ridgerunner, $24 is an acceptable price to pay. If they raise the price and some how gave better service it would be worth it. I speak occasionally with some co's I know and they are spread thin enough. I mean I have 3 kids to feed and an average job at a local municipality and I come up with the cash every year. This is my opinion also but how many antlerless deer does one guy need to kill. I butcher my own, thats all my family eats, we don't buy meat until we are out. Between my son and I this year we have put 6 in the freezer. My son is 14, he killed his first with bow last season and three already this year and I cut him off. He's not happy about it but I believe once your to a point your hunting out of greed and bragging rights. I told my son we had enough in the freezer and its buck only for him the remainder of archery. Three does will cost you $72 dollars guys, thats a helluva lot of fun for $72.
