Yes, as long as they keep it within reason.

With in reason. In my opinion more than a $5.00 donation at one time is unreasonable. But I still like the idea of the pins the most.

Maybe? Like to see a copy of their 2008 501 (3) (c) Annual Report.

Glad to see this revision Woody. I think voluntary is key and I think the dollar amount should be left blank for the purchaser to decide.

I like this poll/option much better than the mandatory idea.

Yes I like the idea of voluntary. I say make it available at license sale, processessing point, and anywhere else they get it in front of us or anyone who wants to donate.

I voted yes, but I saw on another site that the state has already brought in $400,000 in tags sold this year. That is roughly 16,700 tags. If it was a voluntary $1 you would probably get maybe 15% of the tags sold to donate or $2505. If it was mandatory $1 or the state gave a $1 for each tag that would be $16,700.
It would be nice to see the state pay .50 cents and raise the tags .50 cents. That would be a nice compromise.

No, I probably wouldn't participate myself even then, although I would no longer have any objection to such a program.
For myself, I'd rather keep on giving the money or food more directly.
The DNR has things it should be doing already, without devoting man-hours and office costs to keeping track of donations and disbursements.
And I personally think the poor are better served by donations to current programs, per dollar donated, than they would be if the money went to processors.
I have rarely had an "excess" deer to donate (sorta like "leftover pie"...what the heck is that?), and on those few occasions when I have, there were friends and family available to receive the benefit. And they were glad to get it even though I cut and wrapped it myself (maybe even moreso than if I'd had it done, for the ones who know the care I take in doing the job).
I suppose the portion of the donation that goes to the processors is at least much more worthwhile than the government giveaways, because this money would go directly to an American small businessman doing the work in this country, and to one who's pro-hunting at that.
So, I would bear no ill will towards the program, but would probably just continue to give the same way I do now, as my own personal preference.
WRT the state's desire to reduce the herd further by this method, I think a reduction in bonus tag prices would accomplish that end more certainly and with less diversion of manhours. Or an extension of the seasons by a week or so.

Just to clarify - only one state employee (Law Enforcement Director) uses any hours towards this effort and basically all he does is write a couple of checks a year to the Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry program. No money from the current Sportsmens Benevolance Fund can go anywhere else but to this program. There is no diversion of funds going anywhere but directly to pay for deer processing.
