This morning there was a yearling, possibly a button buck, bedded about 55 yards from me. It eventually got up and started browsing and I noticed it had a broken leg. I had planned on taking a doe if I got the chance, mainly because I'm really wanting to try these NAP Braxe broadheads I'm using. But after watching this pitiful little thing, I wasn't sure I could shoot it. I was relieved when it never did come within range. My question is, what would YOU do? Some things to consider; - It's just a matter of time before a coyote catches it. Should it be put out of it's misery?
- The price of a tag, there probably wasn't $24 dollars worth of meat on the little thing.
Here's a video still, the front left leg was just hanging there. Looks like the upper leg bone had been broke, then healed in a very bad way.

It could very well live a long time like that but I just hate seeing such things - I'd probably shoot.

I would have put it down. And I would say you would have probably got $24 worth of meat off of it. Crap to me just the loin on it would have been worth $24. But that's me. I probably would have also tried to call it in just to get it. I would have waited to make sure there wasn't anything like a big buck around before I shot at well. But would have tried to harvest the little thing myself.

Let Mother Nature take it's course...... To me it's not worth burning a tag on!

backstraps! Kill it and butcher it, the license your decision. Tagging a deer you kill is not optional! I voted shoot.

Pass... deer can take a lot of Mother Nature's abuse and survive very well.
I've seen a lot of three legged deer over my hunting career..they functioned very well.. thank you.

I too have seen a couple of healthy three legged deer, however, If offered a shot, I would take it to end it's suffering. Three years ago I spent my buck tag on a small buck that had appearently been hit by a car in the summer. The landowner/hunting buddy had seen this buck earlier in September and hoped somebody would shoot him. His antlers were messed up, and I had to throw away a whole hind quarter because it was filled with yellow puss. I still don't regret taking that deer out.

I killled a young 1 1/2 Y/o doe with a bad limp on her back leg after she was down found she had no hoof back there . Think she would of lived just fine but had a choice between her and her sister so took the the one with the limp.

I have a lifetime license so I would have shot it but it's your hunting season and your choice. As far as tagging or not tagging anything shot should be tagged.

Let it go, the coyote needs food too..What's the difference if you kill it or a coyote kills it? I have no problem with a coyote earning a meal and chasing that fawn down and eating it..they can't go to the grocery store...What's wrong with that...In fact I say the coyote has more rights to it, since they have to survive in the wild..Save your tag..Coyote's gotta eat too.
