I couldn't find my camera Saturday, but here is what transpired... Every time I went hunting this year it was windier than a sack full of farts. Saturday was no exception. It started off a light breeze, and picked up the rest of the morning. I was on wind mode, moving my eyes slowly from right to left, then slowly moving my head. Looking to my left, I saw movement, and it was close, quartering toward a spot just in front of me. He fit every criteria for the day: Antlers, made of meat, closing to 20 yards. He looked like he was going to swing to the left, away from me, but he slowly moved his head right and went from quartering to broadside at 20 yards. I had the Super Blackhawk on him with the hammer cocked already, I did one last glance in front/behind him and squeezed. Now before I go on, I have to rewind this story all the way back to early June. A shooting get together was planned by Steveb and Chicobrownbear, mainly to sling some lead through some leverguns, but we managed to shoot some sixguns and autos as well. As Chico left Steveb's Levergun Ranch, Steveb graced chico with some hand cast bonafied flat faced deer hammers... www.ranchdogmolds.com/TLC432265RF/tlc432265rfdrawing.htmlChico was a mere fledgling reloader then, but he spent the summer making small batches of handloads working up a load for the Super Blackhawk. Ok, back to Saturday... Chico dropped the hammer on the Blackhawk, sending the Ranch Dog right through the boiler room of an Indiana Whitetail. The deer kicked his hind legs, tucked his tail and stumbled toward me, closing to 15 yards, then turned to his right trotting 10 more yards and fell over graveyard dead. I went to the house and called Steveb first thing.
