Any advice on finding good deer hunting spots at Morgan Monroe state forest would be tremendously appreciated. Unless I can get some good advice, I'm afraid I'll waste a lot of time going to bad spots with no deer.
I am not trophy hunting... we're a local Marion County family and we need the meat, so buck or doe makes no difference.
I don't really know the ground there but I've got a map and a handheld GPS unit and can follow good directions.
As a weekday hunter, please don't think that I'll swipe your spot on a weekend... just let me know and I'll stay away from it on any given day. I'm just trying to feed my family and I'll mostly be there during the week.
Thank you very much for any ideas you have on good hunting spots at Morgan Monroe.

I would suggest that you just drive around the forestry and try to find a spot. I don't know how many people would be there on the weekdays, but I know on the weekends it can be pretty busy.

You have a map, look for saddles or areas near farmland. I think it gets to much pressure try yellow wood it is not much farther.

Yellow Wood is a bit farther away for me and I'm trying to minimize travel and maximize meat on the table, but hey... if its better...
I just feel like I'm looking for a needle in a haystack by driving through blindly and taking a guess. Did that last week with no luck, but then maybe persistence is the key. The idea on farmland is a good one though, thanks.
When you refer to a saddle, do I want to be up high in it or at the bottom? Unless there's a deer path across the top it seems like being up high would be better.

I hunted MMSF opening weekend and a couple weekdays. Not much movement and talking to other hunters none of us were having much luck.

Thanks, I'll try the Beanblossom Lake area this evening. I'm going early to try and scout around a bit during daylight. If you have any suggestions on what side of the lake bed to try, please let me know. Where did you see the deer? Maybe I can take BB road south to the picnic area and find a trail somewhere? I've only been at this for two seasons now so I'm still learning.
