How many dead deer have you guys found while hunting or scouting that were probably not caused by EHD? I've found two does so far, one shot from straight down that the arrow only caught one lung, and it was a shame because she was a huge mature doe, and a fawn that was gutshot. Neither deer was fresh enough to even consider saving. I'm not as brave as that survivor guy on the discovery channel! Did any one see the episode where he was drinking water out of a camel's paunch?

nearly shot a gut shot doe this morning but by the time I had drawn on her she was not in an open lane. Let the bow down then a little dog was right behind her, drew on him but same result. Found out later a guy shot her going for the Texas Heart Shot, moron! Trailed her onto adjacent property and had the sheriff called on him.

I jumped a smaller buck about 2-3 years ago on opening morning of shotgun that was injured. I think it had been hit by a vehicle, I could see no apparent external wounds. The bed that I jumped him from had some watered down blood in it and he didn't run very fast. When he did run, it was a labored, hunched up run like a gut shot would be. Dad and I went to look for him after Dad called the sherriffs office but never found him.... A couple of weeks ago two deer turned up on family property next to my parents; one had been somewhat butchered, the other only the backstraps had been cut out. Not sure if they were reported or not, Dad might know.

One of my landowners said he found one dead by a feeder with no obvious wounds or disease. He did not dress it but i believe it has to be the deer I hit several weeks earlier via bow. I found my arrow(with a full shaft of fatty looking tissue in it) but the deer ran off and after several hours and days of looking, the deer was never found. I talked to several people(because I had never lost a deer before) and I heard of a "dead man zone". It is just above the vitals and the deer bleeds very little(I know I hit her, but never found blood). I don't know for sure if this is true, but it would be my best guess.
