Got a decent 7 pointer this morning. It was not one of the big boys I have on my trail camera, but my vacation days to hunt are gone and my time to hunt with the Holidays is limited. He came out into a cut corn field trailing a nice doe right at 9:30 am. I had a stand about 40 yards from where they came out, but the creek is way up right now and if he made it back across the creek it would have been very difficult to get across to him. I was in another stand, 160 yards by my range finder from where he was and held right on top of where his back met his neck. Down in his tracks. I normally don't shoot my shotgun at this range, but I had sighted it in well and knew what my drop should be. I am using a mossburg 500 trophy slugster with 3" remington copper solids. The last three deer i have shot with these slugs have dropped in their tracks, but this was definetly the longest shot with them. It was a beautiful cold morning. It never gets old. Now I am on Doe patrol Grant County. I will be at Shades this coming Monday and Tuesday. Good luck to all!
