I pack up this morning @445 and head to Hendricks County. As I'm 50 minutes into the 65 minute drive it dawns on me.... You see, I am driving down the highway wearing my fleece wader pants. I always put on the heavy stuff when I get to my hunting spot. Anyway, I realize that I'm wearing the wader pants...but I've left my heavy insulated bibs at home! I have nothing to wear other than some loose fitting fleece! Needless to say, within sitting in the tree for 10 minutes the wind had already cut into my legs. I sucked it up and stayed in the tree till 930 or so. My thighs are still cold, even after a hot shower. It was BRUTAL!!!! It would have been a cold morning even with all my garb on, let alone with only one loose layer between that stiff wind, 19 degree temp, and my skin.
So..... I always use to have the ultimate fear of forgetting my weapon at home. From now on I rank appropriate outter wear in a tie!!!

I have left and gotten all the way to my stand only to realize that I left my bow sitting on the hood of truck.... But I never forget my clothes.... I hate the cold... so I make sure those are packed and loaded the night before.

Got a new full safety harness/vest, and last weekend one morning, I got up in the stand ready to strap in and realized I'd forgotten to stick the tree strap in my pack... DOH!
A couple of years ago, I shot a doe and then found I'd forgotten to grab my Schrade serrated folding knife and put in on my belt, and ended up gutting her with my little swiss army knife, which was a challenge... I now carry a spare in the pack all the time...

Brutal, I was going out the front door yesterday morning when I realised I didn't have any ammo. I think we've all done things like that.

I used to have written check lists for archery, muzzleloader, & firearm hunting. Somehow, over the years, I've lost my lists!! Fortunately, memory still works fairly well. parson

When I was just a teenager my uncle had picked me up one morning to hunt because my dad wasn't going that day. In my hurry to get out the door I had forgotten to grab any slugs. I never told my uncle I had forgotten them because he hunted with a 20ga and I hunted with a 12. I sat in the woods that whole day knowing I could not shoot anythig if it walked in front of me. Oh well, any day in the woods is a good one.

I once forgot to put my billfold in my pocket. Got to the woods and felt that pocket for some reason, maybe checking for extra kerchiefs. Anyway drove back home to collect and back to woods. Now I check befor walking out of door, getting into truck. Heck I been known to open it and look to make sure licenses, temp tags, gun permit, extra keys, some money were all there. Forget the cell phone who cares.
