New Georgia record non-typical
When I heard about this I half expected to see a picture of Ole Rod with this buck.
This was taken yesterday in suburban Atlanta. Here is a brief story from Georgia Outdoor News.
Bethlehem hunter Jay Maxwell dropped everything Tuesday, Nov. 20 when this giant Fulton County suburban buck was spotted in a friend’s backyard tending a doe and chasing off smaller bucks.
Jay threw on his camo, grabbed his bow and arrived at the subdivision a little before noon. It was then that he put a long, careful stalk on the buck, which culminated with a 45-yard shot from the ground.
With permission to hunt less than three acres, property lines were a concern for Jay, but luckily the buck stumbled forward, and crumpled 10 feet from the dumbfounded hunter.
Lawrence Wood of Burnt Pine Plantation put the tape to the buck’s gnarly rack and came up with 227 gross inches. The buck has 18 scorable points — 11 on the right and seven on the left — and Jay believes it will net more than 200 inches when it is scored officially.
The buck will most likely dwarf the current non-typical, state-record bow-kill, which has stood for more than 30 years. Wallace Reeves’ 1973 Jones County non-typical buck netted 186 inches.
