Ohio poacher sentenced
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
MOUNT GILEAD, Ohio (AP) - A judge has ordered a man to pay $3,200, write a letter of apology to state wildlife officials and spend 20 days in jail for shooting deer outside of deer-gun season.
Nineteen-year-old David Sheppard of Marengo also had his hunting license taken away for life.
(WW- I'll bet he never even bought a license to begin with)
Sheppard and some friends were accused of using spotlights to poach eight deer with shotguns out of season last year. Prosecutors say they either sold the carcasses or traded them for drugs.
(WW - Great! Now we got druggies poaching deer for drugs)
Sheppard pleaded guilty to a fifth-degree felony charge and was sentenced Monday in Morrow County Common Pleas Court, about 40 miles north of Columbus.
About 400,000 hunters are expected take to the fields when deer-gun season starts Monday and runs through December Second, with another weekend of hunting in mid-December.

The lifetime loss of a hunting license is only a deterrent if the people were actual hunters, which they obviously were not. It would have been better if the fine were higher and the jail time were much longer, but it is still probably more than they would have gotten if it had been here.
