I heard that 150 hunters at Harmonie Park killed 106 deer on Monday alone. I have hunted there 3 years now and have never heard as many shots as I did this year. I guess the fact that the hunt was 9 days after the start of firearms season had the parks loaded with deer for the surrounding property. Good for the park hunters and bad for the people that own the property around the park.

I was at Pokagon Monday morning, deer all around 5 minutes before legal shooting time, then by 730 they were out of range. My scouting paid off, but the later shooting time hurt me. 19 deer killed on Monday. I will apply for next year again. There were some guys from Indy (I think) who came up. No problems from what i gather. Fun.

Did anyone have any luck today? A group of 3 from work hunted Harmonie and only saw 2 deer and heard very few shots, But the one fella killed a BIG 8 on the way back to the truck for lunch. The Buck was chasing a doe across a log road only 50 yards form his truck.

95 hunters showed up at Chain o Lakes yesterday and when I checked out at 4PM they had less than 10 deer checked in. I heard about 20 shots all day and saw zero deer. This is the worse hunt in the last 7 years. In the first hunt they killed 75 total. With freezing rain forcasted to begin early this AM I doubt I'm going back today. h.h.

I went to Versailles yesterday. When I checked out about 26 Deer were taken. I shot a 7pint buck and my son in law took a 8 point. Most of the guys I talked to did not see a thing. The first day of the Nov. hunt only 40 were taken. Last year was much better. Some of the DNR guys said that they thought that the park needed to give the deer a break for a couple of years and I agree.

I was at Ft. Harrison, scouting on Sunday and deer-reducing on Monday and Tuesday. Saw about 8 deer scouting a small area on Sunday and another 9 on Monday during the hunt, but nothing close enough to shoot. Didn't see a thing all day on Tuesday, same general area. I think they had 4 deer checked in on Monday and 1 on Tuesday, last I heard. The numbers may have changed after I left, since I was out pretty quickly after the hunting ended at 4:00. I think during the Nov. 26 & 27th hunt they only had 14 taken. Blame the weather or blame the herd, but it sounds like it was a very sorry year at Ft. Ben.

The DNR used to publish (electronically) the # of hunters and the # of deer taken per day at the park hunts. Every year it's getting harder and harder to find that information. I guess that I'll have to call again this year.
2 of us hunted Potato Creek at the same spot that we have done so well in previous years. (shot our limits the previous 3 years) I literally sat in the tree the whole first day (early hunt) and didn't see a deer, and neither did my buddy. The 2nd day we sat 'till 1:00 p.m. then left for lunch. When we got back around 2:15 p.m. we saw where a deer visited the scrape not 50 yds from my stand. It figures! I know better..... The lady at the gate said that there was an 18 or 18 point buck taken there (near the gate) on the first day of the early hunt. Heard lots of shots, but they sounded like they were at running deer - groups of 3 and 4 shots.....
