The Associated Press • June 18, 2009

The DNR says gun hunters registered nearly 353,000 deer during the fall hunts, the lowest number since 2002. Wisconsin’s record deer kill was in 2000, when gun and archery hunters registered about 615,000 deer.
The DNR says black bear hunters killed nearly 3,000 bear in 2008, up 6 percent from 2007.
As for turkey hunters, they registered about 64,000 birds, down 1 percent from 2007.
