I went to Friendship to the blackpowder shoot early Saturday morning. I nearly hit 2 deer on 46 on the East side of town, within city limits. An elderly friend of mine hit a deer (actually the deer jumped into the windshield of his Caddy ;D) on the Vernal Pike of the West side at high noon. This incident took place a month ago. Tonight, after returning from Friendship, I sat down with The Bloomington Herald. On the front page was an account of a woman's dog that was killed (trampled) by a doe within Bloomington's city limits yesterday. Of course a fawn was soon discovered in some "shrubbery". The woman now fears having her grandchildren in the yard unattended. SO, I think that Bloomington is ripe for an urban deer season. That said, I can not imagine the level of opposition such a hunt would draw from Bloomington's granola eating left-wingers! I wonder how long it will take some of them to suggest sirens, birth control, relocation, etc, etc, etc, in lieu of some nice humane and ethical bow kills to produce some venison, check the overpopulation and protect the citizens, automobiles, and canines of the fine city of Bloomington? I can hear the bongo drums already! ;D Now, .... where did I put my sandals and tie-dyeds???

This was in the Indianapolis Star this morning. www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20090613/NEWS/90613005Deer kills dog in homeowner's backyard Associated Press Posted: June 13, A BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- A state conservation officer says a female deer that trampled to death a dog after the canine barked at it may have been trying to protect its newborn fawn. Jeanette Marchant says she was sitting on her patio with her daughters and grandchildren when the deer crept into her backyard and charged at her barking dog. She and her family members screamed as the deer trampled and killed her dog, an affenpinscher named Maggie. After last Saturday's attack, Marchant called the Indiana Department of Natural Resources for help with the aggressive doe. Indiana Conservation Officer Jon Fennig says the attack was a "very rare and isolated incident." He says the doe was probably aggressive because it was protecting its newborn fawn.

When I was working down there on College Ave, right by the mall, we would sit and watch a group of 4 or 5 deer just wondering through some apartment complexes. I definitely agree that a hunt there is greatly needed, but I just don't see "those people" letting anything get through.

I say let the deer take over the campus and the town and run the liberals out of the state.

If those loonies get out of sorts with cutting a tree what chance would a deer hunt have?

My wife is from Clear Creek (south B-town) and I graduated from IU in 2002 and the deer are all over. The city does need to try control the population, but a hunt will never happen. I remember the tree huggers would go around and spray paint SUV's with some environmental stuff written down the side. I guess they figured the aerosol spray paint and paint to fix the cars wouldn't hurt the environment.
