Going #2 will scare off deer. Not true. I had to climb down once (LOL) just covered it with leaves and had quite a few deer walk right past it with no problems. Good way to attract deer IMEX. You stop being a potential threat and start being a smelly curiosity... Learn to shoot while squatting. ;D LOL

Shortening and moving the gun season out of the rut will allow Indiana to be just like _________________ (pick a state).. Not sure if this is a myth or not......

Yeah, it's a myth.We do not have the mineral soils, nor the genetics to grow 200" bucks like ___________________ (pick a state). How many 200" typical bucks are in the Indiana record book? Answer - None. 50+ years of deer hunting and no 200" bucks. That even includes some very short and out of rut gun seasons.

How many 200" typical bucks are in the Indiana record book? Answer - None. 50+ years of deer hunting and no 200" bucks. That even includes some very short and out of rut gun seasons. First of all, let me say you are right that we will never be like_____ (pick a state) in terms of top end size. To think that we will ever be is to ignore reams of data to the contrary. Could we have lots of monster bucks if everybody passed small deer? Yes, but not quite as many super bucks as Ohio, Illinois, Kansas, etc. We have not produced any 200" typicals that I know off...of course there aren't a lot of those anywhere. There have been those with a 200" gross, like Henry Mitchell's giant that had a 212" gross typical frame. It scored better as a non-typical and briefly was the state record at 254." I remember Jack Keihn's 2005 Decatur co. buck scored 234 3/8" net. That is number 3 in the state, I think. In a perverse irony, the deer that holds the state record, at least it used to...was a 254" monster killed by a guy visiting from.....OHIO! No fair!

After shooting a buck you must immediatley cut off the tarsal glands or the meat will be tainted.
