I was hunting some if Timex's ground in Illinois today.
This morning I saw and passed three 130ish bucks.
One was quite wide and if he did have those 5 inch G2s he would have rode home with me.
This evening I saw two 130ish 8 pointers and four or five yearling bucks and ONE huge ten pointer which I promptly missed. WAHHHHH! He was probably the biggest buck I have seen in the wild for quite a few years. Probably push 160 easy.
A wild looking 5 pointer with a very high rack came through pretty fast and I was glassing him to see his rack... no intention of shooting him when all of a sudden a doe and the ten came charging out into the CRP field. They came out at 50 yards and by the time I stood up, got the binos down, the gun up, and then had to squat back down to shoot under a limb they were 75 and moving fast. Not running mind you, but picking them up and putting them down.
I swung to get on him and just flat ... MISSED.
The last I seen of them was exiting the field on the far side - 440 yards.
Woodmaster got an 8 pointer and a friend of his bagged a 148" twelve pointer.
Tomorrow is another day...

Sounds like a day most of us dream about, well except for the part about missing the big one. Better luck tommorrow Woody.

You'll get yours Woody...... those misses are "learning experiences" so we become even better hunters next time. You sure Woodmaster didn't tinker with your scope? LOL

Sorry about the miss but it's reassuring to know even the old hands miss every once in a while. Like Travis said, you'll get yours.

Bummer on the miss. You must have the patience of Job to pass all those nice ones.
