With gun season so close now, I know I am not the only one with deer on your mind all the time.
Anyway, I was leaving my rental property in Oldenburg (Ripley county) and I see two large deer in a grassy field near a cell station. It was about dusk so I pulled in the driveway of the cell station to get a better look. I get out of the truck and walk around the small cell tower building and there is a large 10pt and a large doe about 40 yards just standing there staring at me.
My gun was in my truck, and I felt a little tempted, but nope it was not the right thing to do. I sure hope a pair like that come within range of my stand this weekend!

You know, I've never been seriously tempted to shoot one out of season; but like you I'm primed to get going with the heavy artillery.

Seeing a big boy in your hunting area makes for a sleepless evening before opening day..
Good luck on getting him...

You know, I've never been seriously tempted to shoot one out of season; but like you I'm primed to get going with the heavy artillery. I probably would not do it even if it was in season. I don't see the sport in it if you just jump out of a vehicle and shoot. I am all for fair chase and taking them in the woods.
