I've had it up to my neck with this one guys. My computer locks up and the screen goes blank at least once daily. As soon as I figure out how to run UBUNTU on this machine I will be mostly open source.
BTW, don't ever buy Microsoft Office again. Open Office is the open source version and is compatible with Microsoft products. You can download it Fo Free.

I don't care for Vista either; I really miss some of the things lost with this OS. It's looking like it is going end up being Windows ME part 2.

Our computer was failing and we just had ours repaired rather than replaced. I have heard a lot of bad things about Vista and was afraid to try it. Microsoft is supposed to come out with Windows 7 soon. I hope it is good.

I think Microsoft is the only one that has yet to admit that Vista is a failure. Our laptop that's slightly over a year old (running Vista) takes probably 2 minutes to boot up to the point of signing in. Once you are signed in it takes yet another 3-4 minutes before everything is up to speed.... I know my wife has added a fair number of programs and put a bunch of music and pictures on it, but it still shouldn't be that slow.

Microsoft won't admit Vista is a problem but their scramble to get the new release out tells me they know they have a problem.
danf, how much RAM is that puter running?

I hate to admit this.... but my laptop runs vista pretty well. I find that it won't crash, which was my main complaint with previous systems. One complaint is that it won't recognize older pictures on CD.
I think a lot of the problems with Vista-- early on especially--- was that it was being loaded onto machines that didn't have the memory to handle it.

The laptop has, IIRC, 2 GB of RAM. Expandable to 4 as I recall, but there's no immediate plans to expand it. I think it's got a ~160 GB hard drive. Both the HD and RAM should be plenty to keep it running fast, but then again I've never been terribly impressed with the start-up speed either.

I was in the same boat as Sasquatch not too long ago. I thought it ran fine at one time too. I've gone through every thing I can think of on this machine and it should be running just the same as it did when I first got it, but it isn't. Wife's Lenovo was running it ok until the great head crash of 2009 (not Vista's fault, gravity had more to do with it).

I'll never go back to Windows. Not until the retirement home at least.
