Yesterday evening I started seeing deer around 5:20 in the field. Wound up seeing 1 doe and 4 bucks. Two of the bucks came directly under my tree. One of which we have LOTS of trailcam pics of.... we call him Lefty. He's only got his left side rack... he was like that last year too.
Anyhoo, there was a small 7 pointer with him. And he moved directly out in front of me next to my small foodplot strip. Standing at 30yds broadside.... I decided to let him have it!
I kinda felt it would do me good to go into my Ohio Hunting trip (nov 11-18) with my chin up a little.... a confidence builder if you will. He's smaller than any buck I've shot in the last few years.... but good enough for me to use my Urban tag on!
At the time of impact, I felt I made a pretty good shot on the guy... even heard the arrow go THOOOMP. Couldn't see my arrow on the ground, but it wasn't in the buck when he WALKED away either! He walked about 20 yds, stopped and was looking at the other buck (Lefty).... and even shook his head around one time. Just like nothing ever happened! He then walked calmly another 15yds or so, and laid down (JUST out of my sight behind a big tree). His partner (Lefty) walked on out of sight about 80yds away.
I came down at dark, and EASED over to where I shot him, and discovered my arrow COVERED with blood.... complete pass through! Not a lot of blood in the first few steps from point of impact though. Me and Romer decided to back out quietly, and go back this morning to look for him.
This morning......... we found him about 50yds from where he first bedded yesterday evening.
Shot with Switchback, 68lbs, Gold Tip X-Cutter, G-5 Striker broadhead: Small 7 pointer
