How much land could George Soros lease up...? . The answer is the same amount that you or anyone else could lease up. That is not even close to being correct! I for one cannot afford to lease ANY at this time, so that makes your statement incorrect. Plus, when someone is a multibillionaire, money is no object, and if they want to hunt your ground, they WILL find a price you'll agree to! One way or another, they can lease almost ANY piece of land they want! However, they would probably just buy it out from under you!

[ Actually Woody this time you are mistaken this was done many years ago and is on record as such because it removed them from any and all damages caused by the deer herd here .Its been this way as long as I can remember. Woody is correct. the reason the State is not liable for damages from deer is because the deer are native to the State and were actually here before there was a State. No actually with all due respect Woody was mistaken as you are in your post . The deer we currently have here are not native to the state .Deer were totally extinct in the state of Indiana at the turn of the century .They were market hunted to extinction so in fact the Hunters and DNR of the state of Indiana had deer brought here from a handful of states that had a standing deer herd Wi. ,PA., I believe to name a few.Every deer that is here today is because of a total restocking program that took place back in the middle of the last century .And I was right about the law and the facts of the reasons we the people own them sorry .I think alot of hunters in this state would be well served to read up on how we got where we are as far as the deer are concerned in Indiana. The yearly seasons from the first legal modern hunt up to today and harvest numbers tell a great story about our deer and what is actually short hunting heritage here in Indiana without any long books.

So what is the difference if the deer are owned by the state or the residents of the state of Indiana? Isn't that one in the same thing?
I agree with Woody that NR are a non-issue. I was just thinking if I wanted to change hunting laws to reduce the value of leasing from NR I would want to restrict their ability to hunt in Indiana. Otherwise it would be nearly impossible to change that.

So what is the difference if the deer are owned by the state or the residents of the state of Indiana? Isn't that one in the same thing? . The Code does not say the "residents of Indiana", it says the people. That would include NR's (people), who are authorized by the DNR to use those animals for meat as they see fit. We're lucky to have that right, as a lot of "people" don't want you to have it, resident or not.

The question was how much could he lease? There is only so much out there to lease. Everyday there are fence rows removed, wood lots removed, and habitat loss. I don't think the real threat is leasing by resident or NR hunters or outfitters.

Dude stop OK you just want to fuss with me is all .You were wrong and it angers you .I been there before to, and it does matter to all hunters the future of hunting in our state what I have been wrong at times and learned from it .This state and all around us work on written words they are what causes changes to our sport they are laws and not all laws are bad .Without laws it would be anarchy and we would be right back to where we were in the late 1800 early 1900s .Our enemy is ignorance and greed here not each other . I do not want to take away your or anyone elses hunting rights or traditions at all my group of hunters and family have our own we wish to keep. But money is what the antis will use to show our weakness and lack of ethical hunting .It's not the average hunter going out and putting his deer or two in the freezer its the money changeing hands for hunting . With money the gov. is not far behind wanting to get their cut and trying to figure out how to get more of it . Thus its more likely to side with and try to attract the most wealthy of our sport while the average hunters fall one by one as access ,habitat ,and hunting licenses get higher in price !!

We as humans have hid behind manifesdestiny since we got here .And now we hide behind dollars and ownership to justify what we destroy or ruin. You are starting to see that its not just one problem out there its a whole compilation of dozens of problems some big and some small .That sap our strength and resources . We hear all the time that we have to tackle one problem at a time .But the truth is while we plug the leak of one hole in our hunting problems or environmental issues ,the greedy ,money hungry ,self serving ,or industrial powers that be start to drill another right beside the last one that is usually worse than the last. Being individuals we will always see one problem as bigger than the next guy and so on . We just need to stay vigilant in our constant battle to keep what we love healthy and around for the next generation.
