ok I am thinking of taking out that deocy I got from NAHC tomorrow... I was just wondering if anyone here has an experience with a decoy..... It is going to be a long haul (about 1/2 mile) back to my stand... so I wanna make sure it is worth the extra weight.... also I intend to set it up as a hot doe (got some code blue gel... just burning a hole in my pack.. been saving it for this reason) so any suggestions for setting it up would be great.

Bucks always approach from the front if the decoy is a buck decoy, if it is a doe decoy they will always approach from the rear. I've been using one for 2 weeks now and have passed up 5 different bucks over it. It can work awesome, but it can also hurt you. They are a pain to mess with but could really help you. Let us know.

hey sleazy..I would agree with joen but remember when dealing with big bucks ...nothing is ALWAYS...but generally buck decoy head ..doe rear...decoyed lots of bucks, the one thing I can say is use it when it can be seen from afar...I've pulled bucks in from 600 yds. away like they were on a string...I've also had them spook at the decoy in the woods because they didn't see it until they were only feet away ! But if you get only one thing from this......they work...you have to use them though....hope you shoot a big one !

If I set it up as a doe I always bring a set of horns with me. You will have a hard time getting a big buck to come to a doe decoy. Plus I have had alot of doe's come right up to a de decoy then when they find out its not real they start the blowing. If you don't get any bucks to come in as a doe, then sneak up to it put the antlers on it and do some rattling. If there's a big buck in the area and he investigates the the horns, he normally is not that alert when coming in. just be ready for him to come in down wind. He won't always come in head on, but when he getts close he will circle it to face it head on. Be ready, and make sure the decoy can be easily seen. Good luck Last year I called in 4 shooter bucks to a buck decoy, it's an awsome sight.

make sure you spray down the decoy with PLENTY of scent elimination spray ! ! I would set it up about 15-20 yards out in front of you with the decoy facing you with a quartering shot, this will help you get a quartering shot on the buck, and don`t be afraid to use plenty of the code blue gel,,I have became a major fan of code blue.

I've never seen an older age class buck totally commit to bow range on a doe decoy. I would leave it home and set up in a thick area and maybe bleat a little. I've never even set up a buck decoy. The doe decoy will fool them better in low light, though, especially mist, fog.

i always face mine facing away from from me either quartering or straight away. i noticed when i first started using one that when i faced the head to me that the deer that came into it would start looking for whatever they thought the decoy was looking at

Well I used it today.... left scent trails going in every direction for about 50 yards and then painted some gel on the tail of the decoy.... sat all day long (just got home) and saw not one deer. I do have to say i am glad I did not pay for this decoy.... it is a POS.... on the way to the stand the strap broke on the carry bag... then the latch that keeps the string tight broke.... when I got back to the truck (carrying the decoy under my arm because the bag was falling apart) I dropped it from waist high and the whole back end of it split up to the mid back....... Gonna see if I can use a staple gun to get it back together and use it again tomorrow in a different spot..... (an area where it can be seen from a few hundred yards away instead of just 50 or 60)
