I found 2 of my stands with hunters in them yesturday while attempting to get ready for gun season ,I said nothing and went on ,called the owner which said he gave 3 others permission too, after hunting almost alone in these fields for 20 years Im sick over the crowd, its where I got a big buck in 05' and word got around ,now I wish I would have lied to everyone. Question is ,how many of you out there would go into an area another hunted and you knew it and get in his stands????what if I was going to hunt and they just beat me there that day? that wouldnt be funny,I do remember what happened in Wisconsin! I tracked the guys down as they left which took some doing and it was well after dark and they took off and would not stop ,I was just wanting to talk about the meshing of hunting plans for later if they was going to hunt gun, but tell them they could use my stands for bow just so they wasnt in them during gun season. My name & ph # is written on my 3 stands & blind now ,but will it matter ? we'll see.

Talk about getting off on the wrong foot!! Hell I won't even sit in my partners ground blind even though he would not care. It would never occur to me to sit in another hunters stand even with permission (Do unto others) especially someone I did not know. Gun season could be a real problem for you if you are not able to set up some kind of plan with these guys. It is clear they have made them self at home and are not going to respect you or your gear. I hope I am wrong for your sake. GOOD LUCK!

there isn't much ground that is a secret, anymore. That same sort of thing happened to a family member of mine, shot a big buck and somehow the area got found out, and all the locals from the bigwig hunting shop started leasing up the area.

I have 2 good size pieces of property I can hunt in KY. There are 5 of us (the rest of them are related some way or married into 1 of the 2 families of my friend or his wife) who could be on them at any one time. (fortunately they are large) They have set stands, sometimes I use 1 or sometimes I use my climber or sometimes it's off the ground. Everyone has no problem with one of the others using a stand. We communicate the night before about who's going to be where on which place and work it out ahead of time. We always check back with each other about how it went, it's fun to see everyone's deer from the day when they connect. We also talk about what we're seeing in the way of deer movement etc. to help the others out. My point in all this is I know that's not quite the same but maybe all of you who have permission could talk and figure out a way to work it out and if they're decent guys you may find a new hunting partner in there. One thing you didn't state was how big is the property - that could make it tougher. I'm not encouraged that they didn't talk to you before using them and I suspect you'll have to make the effort at first but communication is your only hope.

The problem here is the fact that it's not your property. Those fellas gained permission to hunt that ground, for all they knew those stands belonged to trespassers, unless the property owner told them that you were hunting there and don't use his stands.
I would attempt to get their names and phone numbers and work out a plan, otherwise it's gonna be a goat rodeo come November 17

Sounds like those clowns are going to cause you a lot of grief this season. No class! Hunting out of another man's stands that have visable ID Tags. No if's, and's or but's about it these dudes are absolute TURDS. Time to get in their grills before gun season gets here.

Handle it how you want but being confrontational might get you kicked off by the land owner for good. They went and got permission, and the land owner clearly gave them permission to be out there too.
Personally if I had multiple stands I would not want a guy putting more stands in, they might put them in the tree next to mine or very close.
Make the best of it like it sounds you were trying to do and make sure you all are on the same page. I have met a few who would and have just made these types of situations worse by causing unnecessary drama. Turns into a wizzing match and one is out to ruin the hunt of the other over simple stuff.
And if it is too much for you to bear, offer a lease, buy, or find new ground next year.
Anyways, sorry for your misfortune. It happened to me on one of my family members properties. I'd hunted that place almost exclusively for deer over the past 13 seasons, last season my uncle decided to give a few guys the OK to gun hunt. When I asked about hunting he told me bow only. And that was close family...I hunt other places as the spot was small and figured if I couldn't hunt there without some dude walking in I'd find other places.

Pull your stands and use a climber.

Yep, either pull the stands, or talk to them. Let them know they are your stands and you would appreciate if they didn't hunt out of them! You better do something before it ruins the rest of the year.

That is sad that people are to lazy and to disrespectful to see that those stands are there for a reason and they should find another area and put up their own stands rather than take the easy way out. I would have walked up and politely asked why they were in stands that didn`t belong to them then advised them that you have hunted this area for a long time and they need to find another area and let them know that you will stay out of their area once they let you know where it is and try to work together so that all can have productive hunts when in the woods. Plus I would let the owner know about it and ask that he remind them when they come out or when he talks to them next.

First of all I would NEVER hunt someone else's stand that didn't give me permission. You are a bigger man than me, I would have said something as soon as I saw them in my stand. You can be non-confrontational but still let them know that those are your stands, that you paid for and you hunt.

I wouldn't hunt the stands as I like to do my own scouting and use a climber exclusively. That would be like wearing another man's drawers to me. I think I would try to peacefully solve this problem though. A kind conversation goes a long way. Maybe these guys are new to the sport and just need some guidance. Maybe they thought the stands had been there for years and abandoned for good. If I couldn't work it out, I would have a talk with the landowner, not to put him in the middle, but just find out who they are and let him know the situation. Regardless, I would be looking for new ground next year.

As far as I'm concerned, you don't sit in another hunter's stand without his consent, period. Just because you have permission to hunt the land doesn't give you blanket authority to use a stand some other guy has carefully prepared! I don't do it, anyway.

They are idiots for getting in a stand that someone else put up, very dangerous. Pull the stands and move on to another good area, I'm sure you already have. Guys like that ruin good ground.

II won't use someone else's stand without their permission, even if I know it's ok without asking.

Heres an update ,they havent been back ,I think they was hunting maybe because one of the fields was being combined, hoping for a deer out of the corn. I found on one stand a set of rattling antlers hanging,a pair of camo pants in the field where they drove off from me. This area is about 500 acres ,3 fields, 20 of it brush [best] and just fencerows and very few trees to put a stand in ,no way a climber would work ,no straight tall trees. Maybe they wont come back , irritated by a guy on a Quad ! whats good is there is no easy way in this area, thats kept it safe till now.If I walk to my farthest stand its one mile.

I could care less if anyone used my stands as long as they had permission to be in the woods I was in, and I do not hesitate to use another persons stand as long as I have permission to hunt there. I would want to be able to talk with them so everyone is on the same page as far as when and where they are hunting.

The owner may also have told them that there are stands there when he gave them permission and they took it to mean that it was okay to hunt out of them. Me I would pull my stands and buy a Lone Wolf or Loggy Climber. I have an idea as to how you feel because last year I had some one set up a tee-pee type pop up 45 yards from my over sized ladder; you could not miss it. No stands there now. But then again I am hunting elsewhere too.
