Went to KY over the weekend. Saw 5 does on Saturday. One gave me a shot on the fringe of my comfort range and I slid an arrow right underneath her; misjudged the distance a little and that bow isn't very fast so no harm no foul. Saw 3 bucks Sunday morning, 2 forks sparing and maybe a 6 point - couldn't see him very well. One of the forks gave me a ~35yd shot through a little opening but I wasn't interested in burning my buck tag on him. Later on in the day I finally had a small doe come in 20-25yds broadside. Not very big but hey at that point I was ready to get my first so arrowed her, went 10yds dropped and flopped and that was that. Waited 15 min to be sure and climbed down. Walked up toward the animal and uh oh...whats that I see back there. Felt its head sure enough 2 little bumps........button buck. boned Him out and brought it home think I'll put him in jerky. Later had just lowered the bow down to the ground and was getting ready to climb down and what should come by but a doe at 15 yds. clear broadside shot; no way I could have got the bow back up before she was gone. Oh well it was a fun weekend and I'm on the board. Can't wait to go back for rifle season.

That's some good eatin' waiting to happen, plus you took a dumb one out of the geen pool before it could breed. Nice going!

Dave,
Why shrug? A deer is a deer no matter how big it is and the smaller ones are the better eaters. h.h.

Just having a little fun with everyone HH. I'd much rather come home with the guy than empty handed; I have enjoyed bow hunting immensely and I'm very pleased to be able to harvest one within the first month of ever going out without a gun in my hand. It has really changed how I look at hunting; firearm hunting seems ridiculously easy now (although getting onto a big one is still a challenge!). Do you how many deer I could have harvested this month with a firearm - many. It was a great feeling to have everything break my way and be able to take that animal. Like I said at the end of the post it was a fun weekend; nothing like getting away and hunting. We were watching one of the outdoor shows Saturday night that my friend had "Tivoed"and the 2 of them were doing a little shtick about never criticizing someone's deer. It went along the lines of: "if it's a big 10pt tell them wow what a monster etc" "if it's a medium one say something like man he has some big hooves doesn't he" "if it's a small one tell them yep that's going to be some good eatin" When my hunting partner saw it he got a big grin and bellowed out "yep that's going to be some go eatin." I knew it was coming and I still got a good laugh out of it. Like I said it was a great weekend, deer in the freezer is a good feeling don't you know! (although I do try to let the buttons walk)

TNX. Being in the woods anytime is great but there is just some extra magic when a bow is in your hand. (except when it's 90deg!)
