well guys and gals im here to wish you all the best of luck in your hunting careers that are ahead of you! Ive joined the military and will be shipping out come feb. 4 for basic at fort knox kentucky. Im not real sure when i will get to hunt again. Im gonna count on you all to keep the traditions alive til i get to enjoy it again! I have enjoyed reading all the post and have learned alot from this site so thanks to everyone one of you. This site may be as close to hunting i can get to for awhile so kill a biggin for me...but dont kill em all save atleast one for me!

BTW- One of my grandsons is just finishing up his basic in Fort Benning Georgia and will be stationed in South Korea.

You might get more chances to hunt/fish than you think. A friend of mine was in the Army, and he sent me pictures of deer and fish all the time. He was catching all kinds of strange fish while in Iraq. He was in the MP.

There are some huge deer and lots of turkeys at Fort Knox.

Once you are out of Basic and get Stationed somewhere you should be able to hunt. The biggest problem is not the opportunity, but "where to store the gear".
Some COs will let you keep POWs in the Arms Room. Some won't. Archery gear/stands are a whole 'nother matter.
If you can't find a buddy who you trust to keep your stuff off Post, a small "U-Stor-It" NOT NEAR THE BASE/POST is probably your best bet. I knew several guys who did that during my time In.
(The storage places near Post had a bad habit of getting broken into... seems our Troops don't have much room to keep their good stuff and the Goblins know it..)

Take your shotgun along if you can, I'll put you on a turkey hunt close to the post if you want. I live on the border of the post, so if you need anything while your there, give me a holler on this site. Good luck.
