I just saw this today and haven't been on here in awhile so forgive me if I'm beating a dead horse. www.hoytusa.com/pro_staff/prostaff_corner.phpHow can a Georgia boy come to Indiana and tag a 176. I have never seen one that big and have lived here most of my life? Where is he hunting? Is he really that good? Larry

Pulling a trigger on someone elses managed area after a few days doesn't make them that "good". The guys who set him up, had a great area with a great potential for a great buck,.. those are the guys who deserve the credit IMO. There's lots of hunters who pull a trigger after someone else did all the work.
No way am I bashing this guy either for those who love him. Just stating my opinion.
larry, it was discussed on here a few weeks ago. I think they stated where it was shot in that thread.

Pulling the trigger or whatever, I like the dude.
The Indiana buck he killed is on the new Hoyt Alphamax commercials if you haven't seen them. It is an impressive deer. Looks bigger than the picture.

I have seen two deer, maybe three--- that equaled or surpassed this deer in size in 15 years of hunting.
Goes to show you how rare big deer like that are. Here is a guy---by all accounts a nice guy--- who travels all over the place hunting prime areas every year, and 176 is his personal best. I get a kick out of these dudes that pass 130" bucks waiting on that 170 to walk by. To each his own, I guess.

I don't know the guy or anything about him. I just thought Larry's question "Is he just that good?" struck me funny. That's it. No doubt he is dedicated to the sport as you don't just fall into these types of opportunities. I have no opinion on the man or cast any stones on his abilities or opportunities.
I consider a real good hunter one that consistently does it on their own, in public or private owned woods. There are lotguys out there that never get the press this guy does. Shoot I even know a guy that shot a 190+ Buckmaster scored NT this year, and he is the first to tell you it was luck of the day. Now if he can start getting lucky every few years...I'd say there is more then lady luck. I guess bottom line is if you want to shoot these big bucks you have to be hunting and pass the little guys. If you are not out there you won't kill a darn thing and if you keep shooting the small guys you will never see or be able to pull the trigger on the big guys.

Good post Duff. I am eating tag soup this year as far as bucks go but would not have been satisfied with any I had a shot at. Not putting down anyone else's choice and the does eat real good.

I agree!
I think just about any of us could shoot a deer of that caliber if someone else scouted, fed, and patterened it.
"hey, come on down and sit here.....at 4:30pm this monster will enter this food plot and then it's all up to you"
My opinion is: that is not HUNTING.....it's killing!
Now on the other hand......if it was his patch of land and he did all the pre season leg work, planted and raised his own food plot, scouted the deer and patterned it............

If you eat nowhere but 5 star restaurants it's hard to get a bad meal.

If you eat nowhere but 5 star restaurants it's hard to get a bad meal. Great analogy....especially when most, if not all, of your meals there are free..

If anything, he puts on a good show and does a good job of promoting hunting.
I'll admit, hunting shows on the Sportsmans Channel is part of the reason I chose to get back in the woods and pursue my first whitetail.... and the summer sausage from her is DEE-licious.

He got invited to "good" ground and made the most of it. Most of us will never hunt that kind of ground in our home state because we hunt firearms pressured deer that are 95% nocturnal at the ripe old age of 3.5 years old. I would love to see unpressured movement like they have set up, would be a whole different ballgame.

In the same token he is also under some different pressure to produce, even if it is spoon fed it isn't guarenteed. That's why the fenced areas are able to opperate! So even given the better free range areas to hunt there is a different pressure for a pro as compaired to me.

He actually had been hunting that deer for a couple years, and I think he actually missed the deer last year. His arrow hit a branch. Any deer you can take with a bow is a trophy I don't care if it is on your land or not. So basically if a farmer tells you that he has been seeing a 12 pointer in the same field at 5pm and says you can hunt if you want your going to say 'No Thanks'!

I already said I know nothing of this guy but was responding to the question "Is he just that good?". For all I know he owns the land, does all his own leg work and has hunted this deer for 15 years. Good for him, it is an excelent buck, I'd be proud. I will say and I'd bet most of those TV hunters would agree, there are much better hunters out there then these guys you watch on TV. They are salesmen that sell hunting products/programs/organization reps. a good salesman is a likable guy you can relate to. Sounds like he does a fine job and a good hunter!
And I never said a guy shouldn't hunt a deer because someone else does the leg work, I just don't think that makes a guy "that good".

With the cash flow that he has backing him, and the endless opprotunities he has its amazing he has yet to come close to what Chuck Adams and company has already accomplished.
Like i've always said before, put ANY of these "hunters" on public property for a month a see what they pull out. You'll see who the real hunters are!
