I also was a long time member and have lost contact with some of the older members. Just curious if Bud Pritchard, Ellis Ponton, Kent Stumpf are still around. I didn't leave on such good terms all over a crossbow issue. I was president when the club house was built and spent many hours out at the range both shooting and working. I understand from Jeff Valovitch a new indoor range was built, they needed one and about time.
Thanks for any information on the old guys you can give.

Hey Duster, Bud is still there and was the range master last year and a trustee this year. Elis is still around and is a real chacater. I am not sure about Kent. He may be around but I may not have met him yet. The indoor range is real nice. Now that the deer season is over I will start to use it till the outdoor shoots start up. You should come back Duster I can't see them giving you a hard time if you did. Bud, Elis, and everyone else I met were so helpfull and willing to show a complete rookie how to be a better archer, I can't see them holding a grudge.

Just don't mention the word CROSSBOW around those guys and you will do fine...Kent owned Trophy Hunters archery in Porter but was not very active out at the range.

Just don't mention the word CROSSBOW around those guys and you will do fine...Kent owned Trophy Hunters archery in Porter but was not very active out at the range. Just inquiring about "Deep River Bowmen" I'm a rifle and shotgun guy myself but I recently got permission to hunt private property too small for firearms.. Are there no crossbows allowed at the facility or is it like a private joke between y'all? I have permission to hunt private property over an apple orchard that's not maintained so there'll be apples on the ground everywhere to munch on & clear views. My game cams have been catching tons of good activity including a handful of smaller bucks and a lot of decent sized doe's. Plus There's a few 10*-12* big boys that come out almost every evening. The property is also surrounded on 3 sides by Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. It's an acre & a half short of allowing firearms so I had to adapt and make it huntable one way or another? So a crossbow with a scope is my go to. I've only shot a compound bow a handful of times and quite honestly I suck, hence the crossbow. I'm wanting to take a deer early morning then return the next morning and (or) evenings for the big bucks or doe's or vice versa. So my next step was to buy a minimum of 380>fps crossbow with 125>lb draw weight & topped off with a good crossbow scope. I ended up with an awesome 405fps crossbow with a 200lb draw & a really good scope. There aren't many local indoor ranges, then I came across "Deep River Bowmen" and upon reading some of the threads I saw you had mentioned crossbows a few times, I was just wondering if it's because they're banned at the facility or what? I'm just trying to find a good range for target practice... Ty! Sincerely, Jason
