I have dabbled in making calls and need to pick up a few more tools to do it right. One question I have is what form do the maker here get their slate? How thick? I have considered using slate tiles....Just needing some direction. Thanks!

I have gotten mine from: customsawing.com/Slate.htmit is precut and very nice, I have been VERY happy with it they sell everything you need to make friction or box calls, I make calls just for myself to use they are located in KY and have GREAT service and I would highly reccomend them

I'm working on a order myself...I also use grassycreek for copper and some slate if Joe doesn't have what I need at Brookside...Check out www.customcalls.com and www.thogamecalls.com ( if you haven't already) they have some great call making forums and there is a lot of great advice to get from great call makers from across the country...

I am starting out and just tinkering with a few pot calls. I have never worked with or even heard copper how nice does it sound? I have never been a metal surface fan for the sound of it.

Just got my Brookside stuff today!!! Can't wait to put them together. Any help on what adhesive to use? Thanks! I got the 4 pk with the Zebra wood and Purpleheart Wood. I already like the way the Zebra looks. One other question- what to seal it with or stain it with? Thanks!

Here's what use and how I do it.I'm sure Andy or PoorValley can help you out too(They both have helped me out)...Anyways,for adhesive I use Plumbing Goop.I have tried several others and this one seems to work the best. Many other call makers also use it...I usually don't stain my calls,I ike the natural look of the wood...I use Deft sanding sealer(Spray can)I put a couple coats on(Inside too) use 0000 steel wool between coats. The I'll buff it down with an old piece of denim while it's still on the lathe.I'll finish up using Minwax wipe-on poly, around 3-4 coats...Good luck,Post a pic when you finish one.
