Closing week of deer season is upon us. Weather conditions look like they will be favorable.
Any late season strategies you'd like to share?
I'm after my first deer with a bow and will be out a lot this week.
Any and all help appreciated.

My freezer is pretty well full, and I have had a bad cold all week. But it is a long way to October ,so will try to make it out one more time.
Hunt near food and thick cover areas.

Man its a long haul till next year, so this week is prime time for me. The longer it has been since the guns have gone boom the better the hunting gets. The deer start moving again, usually any time during the day, so a man that is willing to get out there, especially around a food source, will have an opportunity if you have a decent hunting area. I'll probably go 2 or 3 times, if my wife lets me. Its been a long season for her too.

I'm gonna get out at least once more. Stick to food and heavy cover.

I got something for Christmas that I didn't want... a touch of the flu bug.
My grandson was home from Fort Benning Georgia where he is in boot camp and he came down with the flu. Then I got it.
I'm starting to come around now so I'll probably hit is a few more times. I still have an archery buck and doe tag left in Illinois.

Planning on hitting it a few more times. I really can't get it right with the does this season. Went out twice over the long weekend. First time nada. Second time I decided to head in a little early (before dark) and take a little different route back to do some scouting. I was walking slow and pausing often to look and I had started down the first hill; maybe 100yds or so from the area I was set up on - what do I hear from back that direction, a doe bleat. I did stumble across a bedding area; nasty thick and high walls on 2 sides - sounds about right.

I have the last four days to go, so hopefully I can get one more before the season is out.

We're having some nice weather, for the next several days, so I am planning to scout Turkey hunting areas on my property, areas, for the Spring Season. Might clear some more shooting lanes for next year's Deer season, as well as do some Squirrel & Rabbit Hunting. ~Weather permitting.

Look on the bright side. With 45 mph winds they won't be able to hear you and you don't have to worry about your scent sinking down to the ground around your stand location.

I went this evening. About 5PM I see an endless line of tails headed up the hill towards the neihbors. About then their dogs, that are caged, start barking big time and I said to myself this may start getting good.
Sure enough a herd of deer coming my way. They stopped at 50 yards and counted 18 of them. Then one by one they are walking my way. The bigger ones were lagging back. Now I have some at 10 yards and the others are little further back. A big doe steps right in the lane exactly where I had ranged a reference point at 30 yards.
I released the arrow and it went just right over her back LOL
Oh well, heck of hunt. Thats wild seeing such a herd like around your tree. My first miss in the past 3 archery deer.
